Quick update:
As we near the end of yet another workday at 432 Park Avenue, several items have been accomplished. A quick summary: Today, backfilling around the core, and the west wall took place after waterproofing was installed. Four small pads were formed and poured within the core. On the four small pads within the core, small box outs have been placed. Forms placed around core reinforcing. Underslab piping started. All this in preparation for future slab on grade casting. Concrete was placed in a footing by 56th Street this morning. If I am not mistaken, rebar (most likely corner reinforcing between the far west perimeter wall and a future wall to be cast??) was visible on the perimeter wall. I beleive that the reinforcing was placed while the perimeter wall was cast previously, then the concrete covering the bent bars was ground off ( the manlift has been seen with a worker grinding concrete),then straightened. South footings are being formed. |

Nice to see that I'm not the only one who likes models. I have built a Willis Tower and a Twin Towers 2 complex from lego, however your models are far superior to mine. I wish I could build such models

One last item I forgot: an area (along the 56th Street perimeter wall) just to the south of the five south footings being formed has been outlined in red paint. This could indicate the location of a major footing to be placed, possibly for the base section of the climbing tower crane. However, this could just be speculation, but it would seem to be a likely location. Time will tell.

How far away are we from having a tower crane placed at the site?
isdmd10, I would think it might not be too far off, however there is still work left to do on the foundation. As can be seen, there are still sections of slab to complete, along with footings, and other miscellaneous items. But here again, I do not know the construction schedule, or how the construction manager has planned things. All I can go with right now is what I see. Perhaps permits could be checked to see if a crane permits has been filed, in which a number of applications have to filed, which includes DOB (Dept of Buildings),for crane inspection and certification before placement, crane placement plans, dates of proposed erection, erection procedure, etc; NYDOT (Dept. of Transportation) for proposed sidewalk and street closure for crane erection, etc. The upshot of all this is that I'm not sure when crane appearance will be. |

The only crane they have approval for so far is a mobile crane.

If I am observing correctly, the hydraulic hammer and a bucket are standing by for breaking and excavating rock today, for the area that was outlined in red paint late afternoon yesterday. Also late yesterday afternoon, the excavators created a shorter (but steeper) ramp, which the medium-sized short-tailswing excavator ascended (with help) to the street level.

Update:
Work moves ahead on the preparations for slab on grade concrete. Waterproofing is being installed, with a crushed stone layer being placed on top. The crushed stone is being unloaded from a dump truck at the jobsite entrance via the medium sized excavator to skips which are then transferred via the triple-boom excavator to the placement area. Currently, crushed stone is being placed on the east side of the future slab. ![]() |

![]() I hope we see that concrete poured this week. Those excavators can't stay too much longer - soon there will be no room for them. |

I hope we see that concrete poured this week.
I am sure that the concrete won't be poured tomorrow. After the crushed stone layer is done for that area, plus the additional layer of membrane that goes on top (a white layer), the slab reinforcement must be placed. Also, any additional underslab piping may have to be placed, and a pour stop still has to be installed on the east and south boundaries of this slab section. Next week is more realistic. Just in: The large Hitachi excavator on 56th Street now has its hammer installed. Hammering will begin on the next 56th Street footing to be constructed. Summary:
Today's activities were mainly focused on slab on grade preparation. waterproofing and crushed stone was placed. I predict that tomorrow's activity will be mainly more of the same, with concrete operations perhaps next week. |
