Heard that officials of a "Fraud City" is wandering around in Bangalore to get the details of the amenities and other facilities required for IT companies in India. They even approached an IT firm which have its own Campus and soon to have another one in Trivandrum. Stupids ! They don't even know what are the requirements to have in an IT park.

HLL launching affordable diagnostic kits

HLL Lifecare Limited, a mini-Ratna public sector undertaking headquartered here, is soon coming out with cheap and affordable duplex test kit for `chikungunya` and `dengue` fever tests.

The new multiplex molecular diagnostic kit, based on PCR (polymerase chain reaction), has been developed by HLL in collaboration with the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology, also based here. Both `chikungunya` and `dengue` are viruses carried by mosquitoes to the humans.

"Making public healthcare affordable has always been our motto. This kit comes as the latest offering from our portfolio to ease the burden of the common man," said HLL chairman and managing director M. Ayyappan.

The HLL founded in 1966, the leading manufacturer of condoms, is strong-footed in the diagnostic business with its Hindlabs that provide a complete range of path lab services.

"Looking to tap the growing opportunities in the sector and making a solid market intervention to make tests of communicable diseases accessible and affordable, we will extend the facility for other viral platforms as well," Ayyappan added.

HLL has a factory located at Manesar in Haryana, exclusively catering to the manufacturing of in-vitro diagnostic test kits. This unit had started with manufacture of pregnancy test kits and is currently into production of kits for dengue and malaria, among other infectious diseases.

The decision by HLL to enter this segment comes after `chikungunya` continues to resurface in the country every year, especially during the monsoon season. In 2010, as many as 48,176 clinically suspected cases were reported from 18 states/union territories (135 districts), according to the figures from the Planning Commission.

Likewise, `dengue` is endemic to 31 states and in 2010 a total of 28,292 cases and 110 deaths were reported from 403 districts, recording the highest number in the last two decades.

183 cameras for hassle-free Onam

The city may get some relief from crime as well as from parking woes this Onam season. Thanks to the 183 new surveillance cameras being installed across the length and breadth of the city and an initiative by the city police to make use of vacant land in the city as parking lots during the Onam period.

If there were only 40 surveillance cameras in the city so far, the numbers have now gone up to 223 covering almost all major stretches and public places in the city.

Though the 183 cameras that have been installed recently are yet to be commissioned formally, almost all the cameras are already live. These cameras would be of much use to the police in checking crime in the city during Onam, said city control room assistant commissioner P. Bijoy.

With parking being a major cause for concern, the city police are planning to make use of vacant plots – a strategy that worked well during the recent Karkidaka Vavu. “We plan to identify vacant plots in various parts of the city and approach the owners with a request to allow parking in these plots during the Onam season,” said city police commissioner T.J. Jose.

During the recent Karkidaka Vavu, a vacant private plot in Nemom was converted into a parking lot with the consent of the owner and it worked well, he added. The city police is also chalking out a comprehensive security plan for the city during Onam, mainly during the Onam week celebrations to be held from August 28 to September 3.The police has also submitted a proposal to the government to appoint about 300 personnel as Special Police Officers (SPOs) on a temporary basis.

The city police have also enhanced their vigil against migrants in order to check the presence of pick-pockets, especially from neighbouring Tamil Nadu.

No action plan yet to tackle parking woes at East Fort

Getting parking space at crowded East Fort – one of the favourite shopping locations in the city – will be no easy task this festival season.

Nearly 10,000 vehicles are expected to arrive in the city on shopping expeditions in the coming weeks. However, the authorities are yet to draw up an action plan to ensure smooth traffic flow in the region.

The parking facility provided at Gandhi Park has the capacity to accommodate only 50 cars at a time, which is hopelessly inadequate. To add to the difficult situation, the proposed opening of a part of Putharikandam Maidan for parking purposes hasn’t materialized as planned by the City Corporation.

Assistant Commissioner (Traffic) P. Mohanan mentioned that thousands of vehicles would be arriving in the city for shopping. He said providing car parking would be tough this year. “Earlier, we used to open Putharikandam Maidan for vehicles to park. But this year the maidan is not available due to construction work. Construction of a back entrance at Power House Road is still pending,” added P. Mohanan.

Scarcity of parking lots has prompted the traffic department to become more lenient towards vehicle drivers regarding parking. “We have decided to provide parking on one side in most roads this year. We have also decided to use Killipalam – Attakulangara bypass, Sreevaraham Road for parking purposes,” said the Asst Commissioner of Traffic.

These tours will go smooth without any requirement for security clearance
and other approvals. Further more the tour project happens without any scope of getting cancelled or postponed like important projects like Vizhinjam or other welfare projects.
Why visit China for studying the developments? A lot of information is available in youtube which they can view and learn in the comfort of their home.

It is possible that there will be a few batches going until most of the political leaders get a chance to visit china using tax payers money.

It is sad that even after seeing the sweeping development taking place in the infrastructure or other fields in China, they forget every thing once they land here and start to work for their self interests.

Tears!!!

Tourist industry in jitters over Vizhinjam

Source: the Hindu
Quote:
Conflicting interests: Tourism stakeholders in Kovalam believe that the Vizhinjan project will not augur well for their business.
Tourism people in the Vizhinjam-Kovalam region are perturbed by the impact the proposed Vizhinjam port may have on their burgeoning industry.

They have recently met Chief Minister Oommen Chandy to request the government not to “kill the goose that lays the golden egg” while going after the “foolish” urge to implement what is being touted as a “dream project.”

The South Kerala Hoteliers’ Forum (SKHF), representing the interests of the tourism industry in the area, told the Chief Minister that the coming of the port would mean the immediate closure of 31 big and small tourist resorts stretching from Vizhinjam to Adimalathura 2.3 km away.

Together, these resorts have 832 rooms and they employ nearly 3,000 people directly. The breakwater structures to be constructed for the shipping channel would stretch from Vizhinjam to even beyond Adimalathura, parallel to the coast.

The forum, in their representation, said the port would have a destructive impact on the tourism in Kovalam also. Kerala Tourism is known all over the world for the beauty that is Kovalam Beach, which is just a couple of kilometres to the north of Vizhinjam.

EROSION

Quoting experts, the forum said the dynamics of the sea currents along the southern stretch of the Kerala coast was such that there would be erosion of the coast to the north of any breakwater constructed into the sea and accretion of sand along the stretch lying to the south. This is the experience noticed in the case of all the minor breakwaters constructed along the south Kerala coast. So Kovalam coast, lying immediately to the north of the proposed port, might experience erosion. Further, oil spills from the ships visiting the port would reach the sea off the nearby Kovalam coast spoiling the place for sunbathing and swimming.

“Can you imagine Kerala tourism without Kovalam,” the forum asked. There are more than 150 hotels, resorts and home stay facilities with a total of 2,750 rooms in Kovalam, directly employing more than 10,000 people. The total market value of established tourism infrastructure in south Kerala will come to more than Rs.20,000 crore, according the forum’s assessment.

The forum said it did not believe the contention of the supporters of the port project that a cruise liner terminal that would come with the project would increase the flow of tourists to Kovalam. Once the natural ambience was gone, tourists would keep away from the place, the forum feared.

It said that a port to be constructed at an estimated cost of more than Rs.4,010 crore, destroying the Kerala prime tourist destination where the present infrastructure to receive visitors had more than four times that amount as its market worth, made no business sense.

The forum also drew the attention of the government to the point that the port, according to the official assessment itself, would generate only around 550 jobs directly, which is less than 5 per cent of the jobs it would destroy in the tourism sector if this area were to vanish from the tourism map. This area accounts for nearly 30 per cent of the total revenue of more than Rs.19,000 crore (according to the 2011 official data) generated by the tourism industry in the State.
Fears and Tears!!!
