Buffalo: Sorrento Italian Heritage Festival Pictures (July 2012)
On July 14, I visited Buffalo and went to the Sorrento Cheese Italian Heritage Festival, which takes place in Buffalo's Little Italy on Hertel Avenue in the North end of the city.
The Buffalo Italian Festival is the second largest Italian celebration in the United States in terms of attendance, behind only the Feast of San Gennaro festival in New York City's Little Italy. More than 60,000 people attend the festival each year. Just south of Hertel Avenue on Delaware, we find this railroad bridge for the New York Central Railroad ![]() Me, along with countless others, walking towards the Italian Festival on Hertel Avenue... ![]() Stage for concerts and entertainment... ![]() ![]() ![]() Started at the booth for Johnny's Meats (which is based in Little Italy) ![]() Delicious Italian Sausage on a bun... ![]() La Nova is a popular pizzeria in Buffalo… ![]() Salvatore's Pizza Booth... ![]() Pepperoni Stomboli from Salvatore's ![]() Cafe and Bakery on Hertel and other businesses... ![]() ![]() ![]() Jazz Band on stage… the Bobby Militello Quartet ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Joe's Toasted Ravioli ![]() Mmmmmmm! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Another famous Buffalo Italian place, Salvatore's Italian Gardens, I believe it is in Amherst, a suburb... ![]() A full meal almost from Salvatore's Italian Gardens. Nice pictures. The food looks great!
I have heard conflicting evidence about being the second-biggest Italian festival in the country. Our Italian Festival in Wilmington also claims to be the second-biggest festival, behind the one in New York City, and claims a total attendance of 100,000 if I remember from previous years.

Whenever "they've said", you know it can't be true.
Still looks like a very fun filled festival attracting a good diverse North Buffalo mix way beyond the original Italian base. Fantastic! I'd go with a verified attendance in the 60-100k range, which is great! |
