Many Punjabis are also working for unifying the Punjabi script. Some are developing a whole new script, which is called Saanjho, and some are advocating for latin script. Maybe in the future Punjabi's can understand each others writings.
Most Punjabis in Pakistan don't even use Shahmukhi. They just go with the flow and write everything in Urdu, instead of translating Punjabi into an Arab-Perso Script. Shahmukhi barely even exist.

There a plenty of magazines and books published in Shahmukhi in Pakistan, and they have many readers.

Shahmukhi doesn't exist in posh areas of the big cities, but outside these posh areas, people still remember their language and culture. They are not as many as they should be, but their numbers are growing.
