Esagerati dai, alla fine attorno agli impianti hanno fatto un parco bellissimo e citatissime, che resterà a disposizione della città anche dopo i gIochi olimpici. I trasporti sono stati implementati e ben due linee di metropolitane raggiungono stratford. Lo stadio poi con l'aggiunta di quella sorta di petali sulla facciata, alla fine non e' cosi brutto. Internamente on e' male ed imponente..Alla fine più che all'estetica qui si e' pensato alla funzionalità e all'utilità e con i tempi che corrono come dargli torto...

Un mio amico a Londra mi ha detto che hanno spento il braciere e l'hanno spostato.
Spero davvero che sia una cavolata quella che l'hanno spento, altrimenti verrano irrisi per secoli per questa cosa.

Verissimo invece..ci sono anche le foto che documentano lo spegnimento avvenuto domenica sera e la riaccensione avvenuta il mattino dopo ad opera di un 82enne atleta delle olimpiadi di londra 1948...

"beating heart of the world"

Games chief Jacques Rogge has described the London capital as the "beating heart of the world" after London 2012 was praised by nations across the globe.

London 2012 is on course to break attendance records, with seven million spectators at events so far and a record global TV audience.

Hosting the Olympics has also changed attitudes about Britain, with visitors paying tribute to our food and public transport.

The resoundingly positive verdict comes amid hopes that the Games will go out on a new high over the weekend.

Team GB’s 10,000 metres champion Mo Farah goes for a historic double gold in the 5,000 metres tomorrow, followed next day by the marathon.

And Sunday’s closing ceremony aims to send 10,500 athletes happily home to the sound of British acts including the Spice Girls and George Michael.

David Cameron said the “golden Games” and Team GB — with a medal haul so far of 52, including 25 golds — have “made the country so proud”.

International Olympic Committee president Mr Rogge, in his last Games as president, told the Standard: “For two weeks the Olympic park has been the beating heart of the world.

“The country that invented modern sport has helped give new life to the spirit of fair play and competition.

“In the true spirit of Britain, huge crowds have cheered on not just their athletes but those of the world and sent an echo that resonates in every home across the globe.

“The superlatives created here in London will live on long after the cauldron is finally extinguished.”

The US ambassador to London, Louis Susman, said: “The city has clearly raised the bar for others around the world seeking to host the Games.”

Boris Johnson said:“From Jess and Mo to Wiggo, Sir Chris, Bolt and Bond — sprinkle in the venues, visitors and volunteers and you have quite simply the golden Games of London 2012.

“The doom-mongers said it couldn’t be done. Well they were wrong. It was done, it was stunning and it will live long in the memory.”

London 2012 chief Lord Coe thanked the city’s people for being “perfect hosts”. He added “The Games have embraced London — and London has embraced the Games.”

Brazilian fans spoke of their hopes of following in London’s footsteps at Rio 2016. The spotlight falls on their city at Sunday’s ceremony when Mr Johnson passes the Olympic flag to his Brazilian counterpart followed by an eight-minute showcase for Rio.

Sales of London 2012 merchandise has boomed and organiser Locog is “well on track” for £1 billion in sales — a profit of £80 million.

L’Olympic Stadium di Londra è lo stadio più leggero, più flessibile e più ecosostenibile mai costruito. Anche i bulloni che tengono unito l'acciaio non sono coperti, dal momento che alla fine verranno rimossi.

Ma i progettisti si sono assicurati che la struttura avesse tutti i vantaggi per garantire agli atleti delle condizioni di gioco perfette. Grazie a test nella galleria del vento, modelli al computer e materiali particolari, lo stadio temporaneo per le Olimpiadi di Londra 2012 non sembra proprio destinato ad un uso temporaneo, com’è invece previsto. Lo stadio è stato progettato dalla ditta americana Populous.

Posizionando i servizi igienici all'esterno dello stadio principale, a differenza degli stadi permanenti, e coprendolo con una facciata in tessuto, la struttura bianconera è perfetta per ospitare eventi di atletica leggera come i 100 metri, il lancio del peso e del giavellotto, le varie discipline di salto, ma poco altro. “L’idea per i grandi stadi di Londra 2012 era quella di utilizzare un design ambientale ed un approccio sostenibile”, spiega Tom Jones, l’architetto principale del progetto. “Le indicazioni erano di costruire uno stadio piccolo, compatto e leggero”. Populous ha creato una struttura di base ovale, di 3.000 metri di circonferenza, con un piccolo tetto in tessuto (il tetto infatti è incompleto, non copre l'intero stadio).

La costruzione dell’Olympic Stadium iniziò nel 2007. Con 785 milioni dollari, il costo di costruzione era meno della metà di quello dei più moderni stadi di football americano. Il risultato è una struttura con 10.000 tonnellate di acciaio (per il “Nido d'Uccello” di Pechino vennero utilizzate 42.000 tonnellate). I posti a sedere sono per 80.000 spettatori durante i Giochi, mentre dopo le Olimpiadi passeranno a 25.000, quando lo stadio verrà utilizzato come sede di eventi sportivi e culturali, diventando così il terzo stadio della Gran Bretagna per numero di posti).

La sua base è stata costruita con calcestruzzi a bassa emissione di carbonio (con il 40% in meno rispetto a quelli tradizionali). Lo stadio è stato costruito utilizzando più del 50% di materiali riciclati, tra cui anche i tubi del gas che avanzarono dal progetto North Sea Gas Pipeline, che costituiscono il supporto del tetto. Grazie a tutti questi accorgimenti, l’Olympic Stadium è il 75% più leggero rispetto ad uno con le stesse dimensioni, ma costruito con i materiali tradizionali.
