Pepe Jeans London targets Asia

Wednesday, 18 July 2012

British denim brand Pepe Jeans London has announced that it is expanding its global reach after a series of retail openings in the Middle East, Latin America, Northern Europe, Eastern Europe and Japan.

The fashion label, which operates more than 113 flagships globally, is setting its sights on Southeast Asia after entering into several agreements with local retail partners for a planned expansion into the region over the next three to five years.

The expansion kicked off last year with a flagship store opened in collaboration with Central Group, one of the largest retailers in Thailand, in the upscale shopping mall at Suria KLCC, located beneath the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

This opening was followed by a new store in Mid Valley, Kuala Lumpur and two more are also set to open this year: one in Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur and the other one in Guvney Plaza, Penang. Also, as part of the association with Central Group, seven additional Pepe Jeans London concessions have opened in Robinson and Zen department stores.

Additionally, in the fourth quarter of the current fiscal year, Pepe Jeans will also open its first standalone store in the Philippines.

Debenhams picks Penang for third store in Malaysia

5-NOV-2012

GEORGE TOWN: Debenhams, one of Britain's oldest retailers, is opening its third store in Malaysia amid the region's fast-growing economy.

To be located at Gurney Paragon, Penang, the store will be Debenhams' first outlet outside Kuala Lumpur and also its first flagship store for the northern region.

Debenhams Malaysia master franchisee Stellar Retail Sdn Bhd chose Penang as the third location for expansion in the Malaysian retail market after establishing two stores in Kuala Lumpur.

Stellar Retail managing director Andy Jackson said the new 20,000 sq ft store in Gurney Paragon is scheduled to open in July or August next year with construction expected to start in the next few months.

Speaking at a press conference after the signing ceremony between Gurney Paragon and Debenhams on Saturday, Jackson said between RM3 million and RM4 million will be invested for the new store.

Also present were Hunza Properties Bhd executive chairman Datuk Khor Teng Tong and group managing director Datuk Daisy Ooi, Debenhams plc' head of international business development John Scott and Penang state executive councilor Chow Kon Yeow.

Jackson said Debenhams Malaysia plans to open several stores in Malaysia and outside the Klang Valley, adding that Johor Baru could be an ideal location for the southern region. Bernama

Kardashian Kollection arrives in KL

LONDON: Not everyone has drool-worthy curves like the Kardashian sisters but fans of Kourtney, Kim and Khloe can now get their hands on the trio's sexy clothing line, which will be available in Malaysia beginning Friday.

The Kardashian Kollection, to feature mainly dresses and formal wear, will be sold at Dorothy Perkins outlets in seven shopping malls in the Klang Valley.

The clothes, priced between RM193 and RM323, will be available at the Dorothy Perkins store in Mid Valley Megamall, Kuala Lumpur.

The collection will go on sale at 1Utama, Bangsar Village II, The Curve, Sunway Pyramid, Empire Shopping Gallery and Pavilion from Monday.

"The Kardashian Kollection incorporates Kim's glamorous red car petlooks, Kourtney's more bohemian chic and Khloe's edgier style," said Dorothy Perkins, the exclusive retail partner for the collection, in a press release Thursday.

The British brand said the key to the range was to "try things on" as the garments were designed to be fitted and customers may prefer to wear the next size up in some styles.

In a joint statement, the sisters, who star in a reality TV show based on their family called Keeping Up With The Kardashians, said: "We're looking forward to expanding our line and making it available to so many more people. We're excited to bring it to new territories."

Aside from the Britain and Malaysia, the sisters are also bringing their fashion label to Saudi Arabia and Thailand.

Kuala Lumpur truly a shopping haven

KUALA LUMPUR: The city of Kuala Lumpur has been ranked fourth best for shopping in global news network CNN's survey.
Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen, who announced this last night, said the Government's continued effort to boost KL as a shopping haven was bearing fruit.

She commended shopping malls and stores on the cooperation extended to the ministry to help make its campaigns a success.

“This is wonderful news. Malaysia Boleh!” she said at the launch of the sixth “A Journey Through Time” watch and jewellery exhibition at Starhill Gallery last night.

She said she had been informed that New York, London and Tokyo were placed before KL.

The minister urged malls and shops to hold more events and shows to draw tourists, saying the private sector should work closely with the Government.

This would be crucial as Visit Malaysia Year 2014 was drawing close, she added.

Dr Ng said tourists spent over RM17.6bil in the stores last year.

“This is a fantastic development and a testament to Kuala Lumpur, which has achieved the second most visited shopping destination status in the world after Hong Kong,” she added.

YTL Corp Bhd managing director Tan Sri Francis Yeoh said Starhill Gallery housed the largest dedicated watch floor with the most watch flagship stores in Asia.

The event, which runs until Dec 1, showcases 120 luxury watch and jewellery brands.

These include Bedat and Co's Extravaganza Ref 887, Jaeger-LeCoultre's Duomtre Sphrotourbillon Dual-Wing and Maurice Lacroix's Pontos S.

There will also be workshops by Swiss watchmakers and Maitres du Temps will launch its first Asian boutique.
