This gonna take a hell of a time in order to be accomplished. I'd stop worrying the day I see the project turned into reality.
Construction is too slow in Iraq tho.

They should hire foreign workers like UAE does, they are cheap and work fast.

maybe instead of curries and noodles the government upgrades industry and technical schooling for those who prefer not to go to university.. if proper construction education is taught with enough labor force for demand i think it can inspire a bridge building generation. the biggest worry is the workplace regulation and safety standards i guess.. i also want to add the benefits of Eco friendly construction with renewables like wind and solar, maybe some geoengineering to reduce the sandstorms aswell

the increase sandstorms are mainly due to desertification following the wars/cutting down thousands of palm trees/draining lakes and marshes etc

Haha! That was my first impression when I saw this "broject". Such huge projects can't be done under such corrupted, uneducated and uncivilized government. I'm trying to stay as far away from politics as possible, but lets just be rational for a second.

Cheers mate!

I'm surprised that you guys don't know much about this project !!

this was an investment opportunity and was taken by an emirati company in 2010 to build a 65K housing project + other commercial, medical and sports cities in that plot of land which i remember they said it cost 20 bn$.

however, the company did not start working on the project so the investment commission in baghdad decided to cancel the agreement with the emirati company

and in July 2012 the commission announced that they will re offer that plot of land for investment but they will divide it into 5 plots (5 investment opportunities) , because the project is too big for 1 company to handle
