Data: UK retail regions ranked by spend.

Don't know if every thread knows the new CACI report has been published?

Quote:
London’s West End has been ranked the top centre in the UK to expand into based on potential annual spend from residents, tourists and workers in 2012.

The area, which takes in shopping Meccas Oxford Street and Regent Street, came top in CACI’s Retail Dimensions report. It found that £4.7bn is likely to be spent on non-food items in 2012.

Glasgow came second with Manchester coming in third.

They were followed by Birmingham (4), Liverpool (5), Westfield London (6), Leeds (7), Nottingham (8 ), Knightsbridge in London (9), and Bluewater (10).

Colchester came last (50) in the rankings.

The report also broke down the data to worker spend and tourist spend (see below).

CACI consulting partner Paul Langston said: “Increasingly, we’re seeing a divergence between the top centres and the rest of the country, and retailers have to make sure they’re in the right place, or face losing out.

“This year, London’s West End stretched out its lead. It has nearly double the spend of any other centres from workers, well over double the spend for tourists and a clear lead over Glasgow, the second placed overall centre by spending.

“There’s also a real disparity in centres’ long term health, with far fewer retail destinations that are likely to thrive over the coming years being based in the north.

“Moreover, the north-west in particular has a shortage of centres that we believe will be top destinations over the next few years, and a high number that could struggle to support non-food spend.”

It is about time we had good news on the retail front in Nottingham with news from CSC that construction work on the new Broadmarsh could start in 2014 and a refurbishment of the Victoria could start next year.

Personally i would prefer a mix of both independent and national retailers in the new Broadmarsh but at the end of the day it is investment in Nottingham's retail sector that really matters. With Broadmarsh having a selection of independent shops it could become a nice attraction for the city. It would get very busy when it comes round to christmas shopping. It would also be alive into the night as well with its restaurants and cinema.

Graham Chapman on radio Nottingham last week said the new Broadmarsh plans at the moment include a "glass roof" between Carrington St and Lister Gate.

I despair. I really do.

Oh well, back to my first fantasy I suppose. Demolish it and forget about any expansion

The old Evans unit on Clumber Street has shop fitters in, anybody know what's going there? No planning application as yet. Also the old Sonnys place is being fitted out, again no signs up? Perhaps the new location for Cow which is moving from its current location?

Apropos of nothing when the HSBC was being fitted on Clumber St a while back I couldn't help but despair at the hoarding outside that advertised "An Exciting New Branch Opening Soon!". A better example of marketing bullshit one could not hope to find. Unless of course you find a stack of ATMs exciting, in which case I'd recommend psychiatric help.

Details on the victoria centre letting to Thomas Sabo as well as details of a 'flagship store' for Everything Everywhere - a new mobile phone store that comes following the merger between Orange and T-Mobile. This will be one of their first stores.

wow, that'll be nice, their current store is so tiny, although that's perahps part of the charm. No outside seating space at HSBC though either...
