One thing I don't think I've mentioned... The hotel is now technically 20 stories. The penthouses are actually housed on the roof, and are labeled as the 20th floor.

The rooms are numbered as if on floor 20? Is there a 13, or are room numbers on whatever floor they start on, based on one floor lower?

I was in a room on the 12th floor and the room number was 1209. I do believe the 13th floor is labeled as floor 13. The 20th floor is labeled as floor 20. I can't tell exactly how to get there other than taking the service elevator, or going to the 19th floor and taking the stairs up to 20, which is what I did. I also went up on the roof and saw inside the penthouses on the roof.

I had some friends staying there over the weekend so I met them down there and had dinner in the restaurant. The food was actually very good. The ambiance was equally nice. After dinner, I went up to see their room. It was a nice sized room and the furniture is on the elegant side (not just standard hotel room stuff). It had a great view of downtown and the river. At the same time, the hotel is definitely on the learning curve. For example, there were no irons in the rooms and when my friends called down to the front desk for one, the staff was initially clueless and then the hotel went out and bought one for the room (or I guess to be shared among all the guests). The other thing that they seemed to be lacking was anything close to a concierge. I suspect that a lot of this has to do with the fact that they are doing this themselves and not part of a larger chain that would have everything set (and anticipated) from day one.

Hey guys, can you answer some questions about pricing in the restaurant and bar?
1: Average price of meal in the restaurant 2: Average bar drink 3: Is the Sapphire room open yet? I think it is supposed to open later this month...if it is open how does it look? Steve

2. Not sure. 3. When I was there it was not open, but at the grand opening it was open per se... They weren't serving drinks but all the lights were on and people hung out there. The Sapphire Room is nice, but I personally like the lobby bar area better. Once Sapphire picks up I'm sure it will be awesome. Regarding the iron and the concierge... They are still in their beginning stages. Remember, I stayed there August 3 and was their first guest... And we were the only guests there that night. The front desk person was the only other person in the hotel. They are still getting used to having guests, it will take time to work out the kinks. They didn't have breakfast there either when we stayed, but said they would start serving breakfast in a few weeks. |

Does anyone know if the rooftop is accessible? If so, are people allowed to hang out there?

Rooftop is accessible if you go up to floor 19 and take the stairs up. I went on the roof just to look, but I wouldn't call it a place where people can go hang out.
Our room had two full beds, A flat screen tv, a desk, a dresser, mini refrigerator, one bathroom. No other perks. This was the standard room. |

Is it just me, or should the roof NOT be publicly accessible?

There is WiFi.
If you are staying in a penthouse, the room has roof access. |

They should put some chairs up there (and maybe a bar station) so people can smoke and have a drink (like the roof of The Fly).

Wait, are we talking about a public space on the roof, or a door that opens onto the roof?

The penthouses have doors that open to the roof. I believe I read somewhere that they used to have roof parties.

The Floridan Palace Facebook page announced that the Sapphire Room (or, as they termed it, the Sapphire Bar) will be open tonight.
