There is definitely something happening with the old Lime Bar. Workmen are in and the interior has been gutted.

The first floor terrace at The Restaurant Bar and Grill looks to be nearing completion. The advertising canvas has been removed revealing glass barrier.
The terrace at Restaurant Bar & Grill seem to have been completed in record time then, it will be good to see the space used now, such prove quite popular until the new sky bar/lounge is built there.

Great to hear that the former Lime unit seems to have been relet now, it has been left empty for so long, it is such a good location too, next to Croma and Piccolino.

Obviously places like the Vine and City Arms and Peveril of the Peak are slam dunks but any other suggestions in more peripheral locations that I might not have come across?
Oh and is the Lower Turks Head open again yet? - an old favourite of mine.
I similar question RE Manchester proper pubs and ale trails was asked a while back, and we all chipped in (and I rambled on somewhat). Read all about it from the fourth post down here http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...=#post92648794

Marksy_1 no problem, I hope the suggestions on here help.

Markydeedrop thanks for the kind comments. I've been in and around the Mancunian restaurant scene a *long* time, and although i've never been mad enough to be a chef or a journalist I do write about food and drink, as an enthusiastic amateur, on a regular basis.

Cheers

Moon under water, Revolution and Tiger Tiger perhaps?

If not, I've always liked the Sawyers arms on Deansgate and also The Deansgate Pub, also of course, on Deansgate. Decent traditional boozers.

It was really quick work on The Terrace Flange only seemed like a couple of weeks. Here is a pic from this morning...

The Moon under Water has had a lick of paint.

It looks like Samsi at Spinningfields has closed and is being rebranded to Japan, the restaurant is currently closed due toan electrical fault, according to a notice in the windows. All the menus are still Samsi inside though.

It did actually open as "Japan, with love & light..." for a week or so with the same team of people.

That notice has been up for a couple of weeks now, seems a long time for an electrical fault. I think it's probably closed for good...

'Electrical fault', as in they've run out of money and can't pay the bill?

Much like 'closed for stock take' when they mean the administrators are working out what they have and if it's worth enough to pay creditors?

It's been closed for 2-3 weeks now with this "electrical fault".

No way an electrical fault goes on for that long. They probably can't keep paying their bills/staff and are trying to find a way to sub-let until the end of their tenancy.

Looks like Solita is proving popular in the Northern Quarter.

A big name London restaurant wants to do a very special Manchester pop up @solitanq. We're extremely flattered but just too busy to do it!
Plus it looks like they might be planning a pop up in a soon to be empty NQ restaurant?

@SoLiTaNq

We may have a great place for a pop up if the NQ rumours are true.Nice big NQ restaurant becoming empty soon.

Wondering if it could be a Costa, about the right size, perhaps Manchester's first London-style "metro" interiored one on 2 levels? I am just astonished there aren't way more Costas in Manchester and would love one like that!

Red Hot World Buffet have opened a breakfast buffet for £6.49 at their Manchester store only. Seems like they're definitely trying to push Manchester towards being their flagship.

Table table on Lower Moseley St has been renamed The Bishopgate. Still under the Table Table brand.

The Hilton Deansgate, Manchester Announces Total Re-style of Cloud 23

23rd August, 2012

by Chris Greenhalgh

MANCHESTER, England – 20 August 2012 – Hilton Manchester Deansgate has announced that its famous destination bar, Cloud 23, will undergo a complete style overhaul which will see it transformed into one of the most glamorous venues in the north west of England.

Work on the transformation will start on Tuesday 11 September 2012 with
t he results due to
be revealed in November. Whilst details of how the all new Cloud 23
will look are still a
closely guarded secret, Lloyd Chapman, senior designer at Hirsh Bedner
Associates, who is
responsible for the re-style, has given some tantalising hints about
 where the inspiration
came from.

He explained, “The main inspiration came from finding
 ourselves at the highest
point in Manchester and the feeling of almost being able to touch the
clouds.

“We then thought about the huge influence that the cotton industry
had on Manchester
during the industrial revolution and worked on the idea of cotton
clouds which will be used as
a key concept feature. Additionally the city’s vibrant music scene
 was a big source of
inspiration with the words from the Stone Roses.

“Elephant Stone
 including the phrases
’kissing the clouds’ and ‘burst into heaven’ also playing a part.”

A significant investment has been made in the project, which whe n
complete, will position
Cloud 23 as the most sought after destination bar in the city.

John McLaughlin, general manager, Hilton Manchester Deansgate, said;

“I am extremely
excited about the transformation of Cloud 23 and having been lucky
 enough to see the final
designs, I am sure that the results will be stunning and set it apart
 from every other venue in
the city.”

Cloud 23 will be closed during the refurbishment process, however the
hotel will remain
open.

Long overdue. The comfy chairs as pictured is the way forward. I think a posted about this saying the same a while back.

It's always going to be WAGy. Just go during the week and there are fewer queues, less bell ends yet the same view remains. You don't go there for the crowd so best to go when it's quietest.

Still never been in there, but would like to go just for the view, however it is all a shirt and tie job? I am not sure they would let me in wearing my punk jacket and Rancid t-shirt .
