Why would people be annoyed by an enlarged Streets Beach. I hope people are regretting this now given the city got the pool half the size.
I do have some paper clippings of proposal one from the Ahern Goverment but the problem with it was that it would date quickly and as you could see had the 80's glitz and glamour stamped over all of it, something we cringe alot about now.

I can't get over how much better dressed people were in those days. Most men seem to be carrying suits and ties. Well, apart from their swimwear which looks silly beyond anything one could possibly even buy today.

You need to read my post on the last page regarding how society was more conformist and conservative.
Modesty when swimming was part of 1950's Australia. There would be controversy when bikini's became popular later in the 1950's. In fact you could be fined by the beach inspector if you were swimming wearing a bikini.

That photo is how I remembered Brisbane when I was growing up. Amazing just how much it has changed in the last 10 years.

I remember they were still using the early 90's shots of Brisbane on TV shows well into the early 2000's like the Today Show.
As for skyline transformations, I think the early to mid 2000's saw the most dramatic changes to the city skyline.

Interesting shots of the street marches from the Bejeke-Petersen era where you'd have 400 police sent in to deal with only 2000 protestors for instance.

Makes you really wonder how much change we will see over the next 10-15years. Considering since 2000 we have basically seen the entire skyline almost doubled, not to mention significant amounts of fringe/suburban developments.
