Thanks for those news mrdove, both are great projects which fill in horrible parking lots in the urban space. If I remember correctly the Plåtslagaren project was one of all those where Länstyrelsen tried to prevent anything happening in town (higher than 2 floors) and where the municipality had to go to regeringen. It is great that the municipality gets support and one would think that it should form some kind of presedence for Länstyrelsen. Alas, I dont think the individual civil servants at länstyrelsen care about such things and they are probably happy that they delay construction for a couple of years even though they know they will deemed to be wrong. They probably hope that the delay will eventually kill construction, which often is the case.

Hope this will not happen to the plåtslagaren development. I think its important for the town, and that they have succeeded in having a high degree of exploitation and raising the town to new heights without infringing on the general character of that part of town. I do however hope that the render does not display the final colour though. That bland yellow has a tendency to look horrible in snowand it does also not rhyme with the general colour scheme in the area. Does anyone by the way have any thoughts on the use of colour in the new houses coming up?

The first render from VK looks very nice and spot on for its place. It also appears as if there also will be space for shops/cafe on the first floor which is a plus in my book any day. With a denser population in the central part of town outside the central square there will be more support for services and more services will make it more attractive...

Hey, those two projects actually look pretty good! They fit in nicely, and I totally agree with you Blahonga - those are some excellent spots.

Some development in the near-located village Röbäck.
White buildings are there now, grey/orange is a suggestion of how much development/density it will be in a couple of years.

And Utsikten is coming along. I don't know what I think about it, but at least it's going pretty fast.

The bit festival 2014 seems to be set to happen. It does seem to be centrer arond that floating stage which is really great. If designed and built with care it could become a permanent feature for the town. It could anchor festivals, be used for summer concerts by the symphonic orchestra etc..

This loooks like an interesting project. I am generally allergic to having all those house in park projects, but given the location where it is hard to see any possibility for a truly urban space to develop and the great number of people that would like to live relatively close to the urban space but in nature, I am fine with it. For what it is it does look attractive and I think that the wooden construction is interesting for the future..

Ā view from arkitekthögskolan on Umeå... I must say that it is nice that somebody os saying the obvious. My guess is that I will not be able to access the real articles and tjat you only will be able to read them in the paper version. Is there ā kind soul who in that case could scan or take ā photo of it?

I have been curious of his plans since he bought it a couple of years ago.
The plan is now up on Umeå kommuns website.

Some new updates, even in the summer!
The floating hotel/conference-one is interesting. Definitely. And that Sandåkern project looks great to me! Sandåkern seems to be turning out way better than what I expected.

Also good that Bostaden started the big project on Öbacka Strand. Is this further down the river towards Strömpilen where the area between the railroad and the river gets narrower? I think they look OK.

Don't know if these have been posted, found them while scanning through Hemnet:

Sjöråvägen, Tomtebo

Thanks for all the updates! It is actually surprising how much is going on in Umeå. The construction market is supposed to be dead with only around 22000 dwellings projected to be finished in Sweden this year, which is among the lowest any year and short by almost half of what is needed to keep up with population growth and urbanisation. Of course we have not kept up with that for ā long time.... We are actually fortunate to have so much going on in Umeå.

I would be very interested to see renders for Njord 23. Tjat could be ā module disaster but its mainly placed on top of the parking house (which I had not understood) and given that there could be ā pleasant surprise.

I found this öst på stan, whereVattenfall is planing to expand their Tyr 8. Does anyone know if this is abig thing or not?

I found something that provodes an idea of what Tyr 8 is about. Sounds promising to me.
