Pakistan’s Airblue to double fleet within two years
Pakistani carrier Airblue has plans to double its fleet to 12 aircraft within the next two years. The carrier wants to add four 70-seater turboprops to its fleet by early 2013, says Airblue's general manager for commercial, Raheel Ahmed. It is considering the ATR 72 and the Bombardier Q400, though the airline has not decided whether the aircraft will be bought or leased. Airblue is scheduled to take delivery of two Airbus A340-300s in early September. These aircraft are on a five-year lease from International Lease Finance Corporation. Ahmed says that the A340s will have 342 seats in a single class configuration. The aircraft will be deployed on a direct Islamabad-Manchester service, replacing the existing Islamabad-Istanbul-Manchester route. In August, the airline took delivery of one Airbus A320, which will be used to up frequencies on its domestic routes. As part of its network expansion plans, Airblue may launch new destinations in Europe, Middle East and China. A timeline has not been specified for these plans. Ahmed adds that the carrier aims to be a major player on services to Europe. According to the Flightglobal Ascend online database, Airblue operates four A319 and two A320 aircraft in its fleet. http://www.flightglobal.com/news/art...-years-375504/ |

Air Indus to get licence in two months
August 24, 2012 KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday directed the Ministry of Defence to complete the process of licence issuance to Air Indus –- an upcoming private airline -– within two months. A division bench headed by Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi passed this direction while disposing of a petition of Air Indus against possible cancellation of its licence after a statement of President Asif Ali Zardari. Abdul Waheed, Managing Director of Air Indus, filed a petition, submitting President Zardari, in an interview, had declined the opinion about financing of airline by his sister. Also, the president reportedly passed an arbitrary order to the defence ministry to cancel operating licences of airline in disregard of aviation rules and regulations. He submitted that certain elements in the aviation industry started propagating; saying that the airline was being financed by Faryal Talpur, sister of Zardari, despite the airline operator having no affiliation with any politician. The counsel stated that after Zardari made a statement to the media, the ministry was informed about the propaganda against the airline, but no reply was received from the ministry. He apprehended that the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) might cancel petitioner’s license under the defence ministry’s direction. On Thursday, the counsel appearing for the CAA said that procedural hurdles in the licence issuance process were removed and the petitioner’s application was forwarded to the ministry for issuing the licence. The deputy attorney general filed comments of the defence ministry, stating that the ministry had no plans to cancel the licence of Air Indus. SHC division bench disposed of petition and directed the Ministry of Defence to complete the process for issuance of the Regular Public Transport status within two months to the airline. PIA plane skids off Lahore airport runway – The Express Tribune
![]() LAHORE: The passengers and crew members remained unhurt when a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane skidded off the runway on its landing due to heavy rain, said a PIA spokesperson on Friday. The ATR plane, flight PK-653, was on a routine flight from Islamabad to Lahore and was carrying 42 passengers and four crew members. According to PIA, the pilot controlled the plane when it skidded but the main gear of the aircraft collapsed. The PIA said that the damage of the aircraft will be assessed and an inquiry will be conducted into the incident. The runway for larger aircrafts at the airport, on which the incident took place, was closed down immediately after, however the other runway for smaller aircrafts remains functional. Some earlier reports suggested that the plane had made a crash landing and the flight staff and passengers sustained minor injuries. However, the PIA spokesperson negated the reports. Earlier today, a Lahore-bound PIA plane made an emergency landing in Quetta due to technical problems |

Karachi is being turned into a second hub for Emirates Airline.
![]() 5 flights a day to Karachi, 1 daily flight to lahore and Islamabad. So that makes it, 49 flights a week to these cities (khi, lhr, Isl). Pak Airspace taken over by emirates literally. PIA really needs to up it's game in this sector. Only three destinations are served with 5 flights a day by Emirates, London Heathrow, Karachi and Delhi |
