Andyan Na!! Quezon Province 1st Niyogyugan Festival 2012

LUCENA CITY, Quezon — For the first time ever, this whole province will have a common festival that will showcase all the festive, lively, and colorful traditions of its people with the coconut as the central theme of this day of celebration to be known as the “Niyogyugan Festival”

Highlighting the use of the coconut, its tree, fruit, and everything created from it, the festival will be a sights and sounds spectacle on August 14, said former congresswoman Aleta C. Suarez who conceptualized the “Niyogyugan” event.

After a series of consultations with the municipal agriculture and tourism officials, all 39 towns and two cities will celebrate the festival with a dancing parade and activities based on the culture and spiritual tradition of Quezonians.

The Niyogyugan festival or the celebration of the tree of life derived from the word niyog (coconut) and yugyug (to move to a beat) has been the main produce of the province since time immemorial, Suarez said.

She said the intention of this festival is to have one thing in common. “It is very lively, vibrant and interesting festivals and of this claiming to be the Home of Colorful Festivals in the region,” Suarez said.
