NRI Consortium to invest over Rs 2,000 crore to set up ITeS projects

KOCHI: A Dubai based consortium of NRIs from various countries around the world propose to invest over Rs 2000 crore in Kerala to set up IT/ITES enabled Business Parks and Life Spaces projects.

The investments would primarily be through Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), Sebastian Joseph, Chairman of the Consortium, told reporters here.

The proposed 'Emerging Kerala' initiative of the state government here next month and its investment friendly policies have given the NRIs confidence to start their project in Kochi, he said.

Pravasi Investment Consortium & Equity Holdings Ltd (PRINCE Holding) promoted Prince GATES ( Global Advanced Technology Enabled Society) projects are proposed to be set up in about 100 acres in Kochi, Joseph said.

The consortium is awaiting clearances from the concerned authorities and discussions are on with various government authorities and execution partners in this regard, he said. The project is expected to give 20,000 job opportunities.

Each GATES project will contain a Special Business Zone, a Centre for Excellence in Advanced Technology and Innovation, an International Financial Centre, an Education Zone and Hospiltality zones comprising clubs, spas, Service apartments and NRI facilitation centre, he said.

This is perhaps first of its kind investment by NRIs in the country.

At least 350-500 NRIs are participating in each of the projects as a part of the consortium. After the Kerala project takes off, plans are to replicate the same model in other major South Indian cities like Bangalore and Chennai, Joseph said.

The development is envisaged to be completely 'sustainable' and 'self sufficient'.

The focus is to collectively pool resources of individual consortium members to create an infrastructure that is conducive to and supporting of technology based firm.

It is aimed at facilitating interaction, technology development, economic growth, new venture creation, Shaji Baby John, Chairman Kings Infra Ventures ltd, said.

27 കോടി രൂപ ചെലവിൽ ഫുട്ബോൾ ഫെഡറേഷൻ ഓഫ് ഇന്ത്യയും സ്പോർട്സ് കൗൺസിലും ജിസിഡിഎയും ചേർന്ന് അംബേദ്കർ സ്റ്റേഡിയം നവീകരിക്കും. സ്റ്റേഡിയത്തിന്റെ പ്രാഥമിക രൂപരേഖ തയ്യാറാക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. 15500 പേർക്കിരിക്കാവുന്ന തരത്തിലാണ് സ്റ്റേഡിയത്തിന്റെ രൂപരേഖ. ഫ്ളഡ്ലൈറ്റ്, കളിക്കാർക്കുള്ള വിശ്രമമുറി, ഗ്രൗണ്ട് ടർഫിങ് തുടങ്ങിയവയും പദ്ധതിയിലുൾപ്പെടും.

Another Mega project for Kochi; with love from UAE Malayalees

Pravasi Investment Consortium and Equity Holding Ltd (Prince Holding), a Dubai-based consortium of NRIs from around the world, will invest in software and life sciences projects in Kerala for the benefit of returning expats.

Encouraged by the state government’s ‘Emerging Kerala’ campaign, the group decided to set up the projects in an area of approximately 100 acres, with an investment of over Rs20bn in each project, which is expected to create some 20,000 quality employment opportunities, the group’s promoters told reporters here.

“The combined experience, expertise and resources of the global Indian diaspora will facilitate the development, transfer and commercialization of technology,” said Sebastian Joseph, the group’s Abu Dhabi-based chairman. “Some 300,000 expatriates are to return home over the next five years whom we will provide a common platform”.

Each unit will comprise special business zone, centre for excellence in advanced technology and innovation, international financial centre, education and hospitality and healthcare zones, NRI facilitation centre, shared facilities zone consisting of sports academy, retail strip mall, multiplex, food courts and library and a residential zone with villas, row houses and apartments.

Ernst & Young and Burt Hill Stantec are the lead consultants of the projects aimed at establishing an eco-system to enable the integration of advanced technologies.

It is planned to be the first of its kind, premium integrated life-spaces project. The ‘sustainable’ and ‘self-sufficient’ development, essentially supporting multiple clusters across the country, would be inter-dependent.

“Between 350 and 500 non-resident Indians (NRI) are participating in each of the project as part of the consortium. After successful conclusion of various tie-ups and putting the project on track we intend to replicate the same model in other major southern cities,” Joseph said.

The focus is on collectively pooling resources of individuals to create an infrastructure that is conducive to and supporting of technology-based firms, facilitating interaction, technology development, economic growth, new venture creation, commercialization of innovation and building up of quality human resources in a self-sustaining environment.

“Kerala is a preferred destination as majority of the returning NRIs will be from Kerala. So we decided to set up the first project in Kerala and we are here to finalise with various authorities and execution partners on how to take this forward,” he said.

The Kerala government’s efforts to attract investments from non-resident Indians, or NRIs, have received a big boost with Dubai-based Pravasi Investment Consortium & Equity Holding, or Prince Holding, coming forward to invest Rs20 billion in the sunrise knowledge sector in the state.

NRIs will be leveraging their combined experience, expertise and resources to set up a series of IT/ITES-enabled business parks and life space projects at the booming port city of Cochin, which has already attracted substantial foreign direct investment, or FDI, not only from Dubai NRIs but as well as from the Dubai government.

The consortium has floated a society called Global Advanced Technology Enabled Society, or Gates, to collectively pool the resources of the individual members of the Consortium to create infrastructure for promoting technology-based firms.

Consortium chairman Sebastian Joseph said approximately 350 to 500 NRIs will be participating in each of the projects. Each Gates project will contain a special business zone, a centre for excellence in advanced technology and Innovation, an international financial centre, an education zone and hospitality zones comprising clubs, spas, service apartments and NRI facilitation centre.

He told reporters at Cochin that the company would acquire 100 acres in the city to set up the projects. The consortium is awaiting clearances from the concerned authorities and discussions are on with various government authorities and execution partners in this regard, he said. The project is expected to create 20,000 job opportunities. The investments would be primarily through FDI.

After successful conclusion of various tie-ups and putting the project on track, the company intends to replicate the same model in other major South Indian cities.

He said that NRIs were prompted to consider Kerala for the project in the wake of several investment friendly policies introduced by the Congress-led United Democratic Front government. The proposed “Emerging Kerala” initiative of the government next month and its pro-active polices have boosted the confidence of NRIs.

Joseph said that the project is envisaged to be completely “sustainable” and “self-sufficient”.

It is proposed to essentially support multiple clusters across the respective states and the country, which would be inter-dependent for an overall sustainable development, the consortium head said.

He said that the project was also aimed at creating a common platform for expatriates who would be returning to the country. According to a study, over 300,000 NRIs are expected to return to India in the next five years.

Prince Gates will help them to come together, thereby redirecting human capital movement from more developed countries to their home land. The focus will be to collectively pool resources of individual consortium members for the country’s development.

Prince Gates will facilitate interaction, technology development, economic growth, new venture creation. The lead consultants and planners of the project include internationally reputed players like Ernst & Young and Burt Hill Stantec.

Bangalore is indeed a great city for several Mallus to consider their return life.... Its near to Kerala, offers a super urban life with all international facilities makes it attractive for NRK investment....

Afterall, they are not investing for sake of nostalgia alone.... Even returns do matter...

Kochi is Kerala's leading city. Though not comparable to Bangalore or Chennai, definitely its one of India's top Cities, offering miniature of lifestyle what you get in Dubai or Bangalore or Mumbai.... Not much cities can real boast against Kochi, when comes to reality, other than in Social forums.... Be in terms of convenience, in terms of shopping, or in terms of availability of services etc....

Naturally NRKs, when investing in Kerala, always prefer first Kochi.... If these kind of ventures gets successful in Kochi, surely we can expect they branching out to other places in Kerala, as we Keralites never like concentration of resources in one place.... Its part and parcel of our culture....

Will it end up as another Kochi Tuskers. Wish not. Sreemoolanagaram has plenty of cheap land very close to airport and proposed ring road also passing along . I do not think filling land will be needed..

Its social circumstances and support factors that determine success of projects... No one start a venture, to make it as a failure... Unless ventures gets proper support facility as well as promotion from public and concerned govt agencies, it shall not prosper, unless its backed with that much level of determination of its investors.....

Kerala, needs a visible private mega investment, so that it gives confidence to other investors to invest.... It should not be at cosy of govt owned estates and zones. Rather a visible private sector development, in those areas where they can do that with ease.... Hope projects like this, makes itself into success, which encourages more investors in future

NRIs to set up IT park in Kochi


KOCHI: Pravasi Investment Consortium & Equity Holding Ltd (Prince Holding), a Dubai-based consortium of non-resident Indians (NRIs), will set up a business park for IT and IT enabled services (ITES) in Kochi with an investment of over Rs 2,000 crore, said Sebastian Joseph, chairman of the consortium.

"We have visited a couple of sites near Kochi and yet to choose one," Joseph said to reporters in Kochi on Friday. "Ours is a group of professionals like engineers, doctors and chartered accountants working in different parts of the globe," he noted. He is a chartered accountant by qualification and currently serving as chief financial officer and chief operating officer in the office of the ruler of Abu Dhabi, one of the emirates of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The project, planned to be developed in a campus of over 100 acres, will have a special business zone, a centre for excellence in advanced technology and innovation, international financial centre, and education zone. Its hospitality zone will comprise of clubs, spas and service apartments.

There will also be a health care zone, NRI facilitation centre, shared facilities zone consisting of sports academy, retail strip mall, multiplex, food courts, library and a residential zone with villas, row houses and apartments. The whole project would create 20,000 jobs, Joseph said. Prince Holding is banking on the expectation that 3 lakh NRIs will return to India over the next five years. "Kerala is a very preferred destination as the majority of the returning NRIs is from Kerala.Prince Holding has decided to set up the first project in Kerala and we are here to finalize with various governmental authorities and execution partners on how to take this forward," Joseph said.

Kochi promised water 24x7

An early end is in sight for the woes of Kochi city and its suburbs like Kalamassery and Eloor, which have been facing acute drinking water shortage for long. Non-stop drinking water supply is envisaged under an upcoming scheme.

Kerala Water Authority’s second steering committee meeting with the Ministry of Urban Development and Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) saw the approval coming for a Rs5,400 crore fund for augmentation of the Kochi water scheme. Nod has also been given for modernising, augmenting and rehabilitating water schemes in 22 municipalities.

Water resources minister P.J. Joseph had announced in the previous session of the assembly that Rs5,700 crore would be required for supplementing the water schemes as also for other maintenance works.

“Rs1,000 crore would be provided for the augmentation of water supply in the suburbs of Kochi by the MoUD and JICA and another Rs725 crore for Kochi city alone. Also, Rs125 crore would be set aside for 22 municipalities statewide,” KWA MD Ashok Kumar Singh, told DC.

Absolutely MI . I am a bit skeptical about the support factor from the public which is dictated by a handful of politicians and given their inborn enmity to mega projects we have to wait and see how the whole scenario unfolds. But before floating a 2000 crore project the promoters must have made market study and must have allocated enough funds to neutralize their opposition. Yes we need a mega project from Private sector to instil confidence for other investors. Belated happy eid.

8.44 ഏക്കറിലാണ് ത്രിത്വം പദ്ധതി പണിതുയർത്തുന്നതെന്ന് ഉബാലെ അറിയിച്ചു. മൂന്ന്, നാല് കിടക്കമുറികളുള്ള ആഡംബര ഫ്ളാറ്റുകളാണ് ഇതിലുള്ളത്. ത്രിത്വത്തിന്റെ ഒരുവശത്ത് അറബിക്കടലും മറുവശത്ത് മംഗളവനവുമാണ്. പ്രശസ്ത ഓസ്ട്രേലിയൻ ആർക്കിടെക്ചറൽ സ്ഥാപനമായ വുഡ്സ് ബാഗട്ട് ആണ് ഇതിന്റെ രൂപകൽപന നിർവഹിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. ആദ്യഘട്ടത്തിന്റെ പൈലിങ് ജോലികൾ പൂർത്തിയായെന്നും 2014 ഡിസംബറോടെ കെട്ടിടത്തിന്റെ പണി പൂർത്തിയാകുമെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു. രണ്ട് ടവറുകളിലായി 200 ഫ്ളാറ്റുകൾ അടങ്ങിയതാണ് ആദ്യഘട്ടം.

ചതുരശ്ര അടിക്ക് 5,800 രൂപയാണ് ത്രിത്വത്തിന്റെ അടിസ്ഥാനവില. എന്നാൽ പ്രീമിയം അപ്പാർട്ടുമെന്റുകൾക്ക് 9,000 രൂപവരെ വിലയാകും. ക്ലബ്ബ്ഹൗസ്, ഫിറ്റ്നെസ് സെന്റർ, സ്ക്വാഷ്, ടെന്നീസ് കോർട്ടുകൾ, ജോഗിങ്ട്രാക്ക്, സ്വിമ്മിങ്പൂളുകൾ, കഫെകൾ, അത്യാധുനിക സുരക്ഷാസംവിധാനങ്ങൾ തുടങ്ങി എല്ലാ സൗകര്യങ്ങളും ഇവിടെ ഏർപ്പെടുത്തുമെന്ന് സഞ്ജയ് ഉബാലെ വ്യക്തമാക്കി.

ടാറ്റ സൺസ് ലിമിറ്റഡിന്റെ നൂറ് ശതമാനം സബ്സിഡിയറിയാണ് ടാറ്റ റിയാൽറ്റി ആൻഡ് ഇൻഫ്രാസ്ട്രക്ചർ ലിമിറ്റഡ്. റിയൽ എസ്റ്റേറ്റ് മേഖലയിൽ കൊച്ചി 30 ശതമാനം വളർച്ചയാണ് നേടുന്നതെന്നും അതിനാലാണ് ഈ നഗരം തങ്ങൾ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തതെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം വ്യക്തമാക്കി. ജനറൽ മാനേജർ സെയിൽസ് ആൻഡ് മാർക്കറ്റിങ് സൈറസ് എഞ്ചിനീയറും പത്രസമ്മേളനത്തിൽ പങ്കെടുത്തു.

കൊച്ചി-പാലക്കാട് നിംസിന് കേന്ദ്രാനുമതി തേടി

തിരുവനന്തപുരം:വൻ മുന്നേറ്റം പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കുന്ന കൊച്ചി-പാലക്കാട് ദേശീയ നിക്ഷേപ ഉല്പാദന മേഖല (നിംസ്) യ്ക്ക് സംസ്ഥാനം കേന്ദ്രസർക്കാരിന്റെ അനുമതി തേടി. 53,825 കോടി രൂപയുടേതാണ് ഈ പദ്ധതി. നിംസിനു വേണ്ടി കെ.എസ്.ഐ.ഡി.സി തയാറാക്കിയ വിശദമായ പദ്ധതി റിപ്പോർട്ട് കേന്ദ്രസർക്കാരിന് നൽകിയെന്ന് മന്ത്രി പി.കെ കുഞ്ഞാലിക്കുട്ടി അറിയിച്ചു.

എമർജിങ് കേരള നിക്ഷേപക ഉച്ചകോടിയിൽപ്പെട്ട 'നിംസ്' പൊതു-സ്വകാര്യ പങ്കാളിത്തത്തോടെയാണ് പൂർത്തിയാക്കുക. ആറു വ്യവസായമേഖലകൾ, രണ്ട് ഭക്ഷ്യ-കാർഷിക ഉല്പാദന മേഖലകൾ, മൂന്ന് എൻജിനീയറിങ്-ഇലക്ട്രോണിക്സ് മേഖലകൾ, ഒരു കെമിക്കൽ-പെട്രോ കെമിക്കൽ എന്നിവയും വൈദ്യുതോല്പാദനത്തിനുള്ള സൗകര്യങ്ങളുമാണ് നിംസിലുണ്ടാവുകയെന്ന് കെ.എസ്.ഐ.ഡി.സി. എം.ഡി. അൽക്കേഷ് ശർമ പറഞ്ഞു. ഡ്രെയിനേജ്, കുടിവെള്ള പദ്ധതികൾ, മലിനജല സംസ്കരണ പ്ലാന്റുകൾ, മലിനജല നിർഗമന മാർഗങ്ങൾ, മഴവെള്ള ശേഖരം, ഖരമാലിന്യ നിർമാർജനം, ഹരിതമേഖലകൾ എന്നിവയോടെ ഓരോ സമുച്ചയവും തീർത്തും സ്വയംപര്യാപ്തമായിരിക്കും. സംസ്ഥാന സർക്കാരിന്റെ വിവിധ ഏജൻസികളുടേതായി 1700 ഹെക്ടർ ഈ മേഖലയിലുണ്ട്. എറണാകുളം, തൃശ്ശൂർ, പാലക്കാട്, മലപ്പുറം ജില്ലകളിലായി 3500 ഏക്കർ ഏറ്റെടുക്കണം. ആവശ്യമായ ഭൂമി കെ.എസ്.ഐ.ഡി.സി. കണ്ടെത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഇപ്പോഴത്തെ എൻ.എച്ച് 544-നിരുവശത്തുമായി 25 കിലോമീറ്ററിനുള്ളിൽ 160 കിലോമീറ്റർ ദൈർഘ്യമുള്ള ഭാഗത്താണ് പദ്ധതി വിഭാവനം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നത്. വൈദ്യുതിക്കുവേണ്ടി വാതകാധിഷ്ഠിത നിലയം സ്ഥാപിക്കും. സൗരോർജമായി 250 മെഗാവാട്ടും കാറ്റിൽനിന്ന് 50 മെഗാവാട്ടും ഉല്പാദിപ്പിക്കുന്നതോടെ പാരമ്പര്യേതര ഊർജം 300 മെഗാവാട്ടാകുമെന്ന് കെ.എസ്.ഐ.ഡി.സി. എക്സിക്യൂട്ടീവ് ഡയറക്ടർ ടി.പി. തോമസുകുട്ടി ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടി. നിംസ് നടപ്പാക്കാനായി കേന്ദ്ര-സംസ്ഥാന സർക്കാരുകളുടെ പങ്കാളിത്തമുള്ള പ്രത്യേക സംവിധാന (എസ്.പി.വി.) ത്തിനു രൂപം നൽകും. പദ്ധതിയുടെ മാസ്റ്റർപ്ലാൻ തയാറാക്കുന്നതും വികസനപരിപാടികൾ ഏറ്റെടുക്കുന്നതും ഈ എസ്.പി.വി. ആയിരിക്കും

New Railway ticket counter to be opened

Residents’ forum highlights demand for overbridge at Edappally Railway station.

A non-reserved ticket issuing facility of the Railways will be inaugurated at the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) at Edappally on Monday, taking their total number in the city to seven.

Thiruvananthapuram Divisional Railway Manager Rajesh Agarwal will throw open the counter to members of the public. The aim is to reduce the queue at the ticket counters in Kochi’s two main stations — Ernakulam Junction and Ernakulam Town. The Ernakulam area manager of the Railways P.L. Ashok Kumar said that passengers would be able to purchase unreserved tickets from the counter.

The counter will be similar to the one at the High Court of Kerala. “It will be manned by staff nominated by AIMS, who have been trained by the Railways. The counter’s operator will get Re.1 per ticket as remuneration. Around 600 people, on an average, depend on each of the other such counters in the city. Any establishment which wants to open such a counter in its premises can approach us and we will provide all guidance,” Mr. Kumar said.

The ticket counter at the Civil Station in Kakkanad has the added advantage that tickets can be reserved from there. Around 1,000 people use the facility each day. Each Lok Sabha MP is eligible to get a reservation system in his constituency, while each Rajya Sabha MP can suggest a counter anywhere in the State.

A ticket counter at the Vyttilla mobility hub using the quota of Charles Diaz, MP, is long-pending. “The infrastructure for this is not yet ready and Kerala Tourism has promised to install the amenities at the hub,” Mr. Diaz said.

“We hope that the Thiruvananthapuram DRM who will visit AIMS will also see for himself the necessity for an overbridge to link the southern side of the Edappally Railway station with the road on the northern side that leads to the hospital,” said K.A. Francis, treasurer of the Ernakulam District Residents Associations’ Apex Council (EDRAAC). “A policeman was the last victim fatally knocked down by a train as he was crossing the tracks to reach Amrita Hospital. People have to cross seven tracks to reach the other side,” he said.

The government had approved the project to build a two-lane overbridge at the station over a year ago.
