The whole 3WTC podium thing sounds fishy to me. I think if they build the podium already they will go to the top of the tower without a pause .... But that is only my speculation and nothing else

It makes no sense that they build the podium, open it, and then close it for construction of the tower. I wouldn't be surprised if they cancelled towers 3 and 2 |

I don't think Larry would just cancel those buildings, though there is always a possibility this could happen but even then only for tower 2, I'd say

There is zero chance these buildings get cancelled. Years worth of construction, and the moment this tower goes on hold because the economy is a mess, and people say this tower will get cancelled? Silverstein has invested millions into just this tower, why in the world would he just eat that loss, and not build the tower? I know this is the internet, but please try and use a tiny bit of common sense. Edit: Thought I'd add a quick point. Whether we like it or not, the developers of all these offices buildings in Manhattan; Related, Silverstein, Vornado, Sherwood, Moinian, Boston Properties, Hines, etc, have a much better understanding of the commercial market than any of us do. So the mere fact that that many commercial buildings are in the works in Manhattan should be indicative of the immense confidence in the future of Manhattan's commercial market from the same people who take on a great amount of financial risk when they buy the land for a building, pay an architect to design the building, pay to go through the approval process, and then pay property taxes on the site while it sits empty while they wait for an anchor tenant. Developers don't do this stuff for fun, they do it because they think it will be a profitable investment. The end. On top of all that, almost 90% of Manhattan's commercial real estate predates 1970. That can not be understated, and I feel like I say this in every single NY office building thread, because people here can not seem to get that through their heads. By some measures NYs commercial real estate is older than London's, and is literally several decades older than Shanghai's, Hong Kong's, or Tokyo's, if not more. You guys have to smarter than this... Honestly, I think that the tower (2 AND 3) will resume in 2013. Cause the economy has been crap every year there is a presidential election (Why? I dont know...) So by the time the election ends, give it 6 or so months and im sure the towers will be resumed.

The upcoming presidental election has been a factor for the lack of tenants, yes. However, I do remember reading that 2 WTC wouldn't find any tenants until 3 WTC was filled up, which in turn makes me doubtful that 2 WTC will restart next year.

Plus, the amount of large tenants looking around for space has been pegged at around 8 to 12, looking for at least 1M sf of space. So Time Warner could take 2M sf here, leaving a few hundred thousand sf unoccupied, but to a News Corp who's looking for a at least 1 million sf, they obviously wouldn't want to lease 800,000 in 3 WTC and then 200,000 sf in 2 WTC. They'd just move all their operations into 2 WTC. The election is slowing this down though. |

Once the election is decided by November, then you will see a flurry of activity. I have a feeling that construction on 3 WTC won't stop and sometime around 2014, 2WTC will begin construction as well. I think the whole site should be finished by 2018. |

That's a very reasonable schedule/time frame

2 WTC needs an anchor tenant before it can rise. Silverstein properties, which owns buildings 2 and 3, is actively searching for tenants but they are focusing on 3 WTC due to it's cheaper cost.
