I hope you know that this project is just the expansion of current Sion Panvel highway and not a brand new road. The current six lane road from BARC Jn. upto Kalamboli Jn will be made 10 lane

If IVRCL is gogin to toll this, then what happens to the MEP toll plaza at Vashi?

Again MEP collects toll only to maintain 50 flyovers built by MSRDC across MMR. The future toll plaza at Kalamboli wil be for this upgradation

The Eastern Freeway project, which will ensure a smooth ride from the eastern suburbs and satellite towns to the island city of Mumbai, will reach a milestone at the end of this month when work on one of the two tunnels on the route will be completed. The tunnels are the first urban ones in Mumbai.

The 16.8km-long eastern freeway project, which is expected to cost around Rs1,100 crore, runs from P D’Mello Road to Ghatkopar in three stages. The stretch from Orange Gate on P D’Mello Road and from Panjarpole to Ghatkopar (Indian Oil Nagar junction) will be an elevated four-lane road, while the Anik Panjarpole Link Road (APLR), which will have twin tunnels, will be an eight-lane one at the ground-level.

A senior Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) official said work on one of the tunnels will be completed on August 31 and it will be thrown open to traffic next January.

Work on the section from Orange Gate to Panjarpole will be finished by the end of January, the official said, adding that the APLR’s second tunnel will open to traffic by February- March 2013. The Panjarpole-Ghatkopar stretch will be completed by end of March next.

“The APLR has almost all the components possible in a civil engineering project, including bridges, tunnels, rail over-bridges, and cement concrete and bitumen sections,” the MMRDA official said, adding that the work on the APLR saw one of the largest ever relief and rehabilitation exercises with 5,000 families being given alternative accommodation.

Does that mean a person travelling from sion to panvel will have to pay toll twice . If that is the case then I think the MTHL proposed toll of RS 200 for a car to take you to the MPE without entering Navi Mumbai is not bad .

Yep twice. Can only imagine the hell it will be to get out of Mumbai on a Saturday. 15 minutes at Vashi, 15 at Kalamboli and another 15 at Khopoli

With a number of PPP roads coming up, tolls plazas are going to increase everywhere. They have to streamline toll collection to avoid snarls. And yes, all those imaginary Sewri-Worli link, WHSL etc will also be tolled as per plans. Will Eastern Freeway be tolled?

Nice man . Thanks a lot . This is the only project that seems to be well on time . Cant wait for the day when I will get to zip to Navi mumbai using the freeway .

Advertising does involve big money, but in the case of a road like this, it requires high maintenance which would require it to be tolled.

P.S: We in Coimbatore, pay toll for a 32m bridge right in the heart of the city.
