I have a friend who does some of the production on that series but have never seen an episode or even talked to anyone who has. It's like it's in some unknown void, even though I know it's actually on the air!

Best article to come out about Magic City

'Magic City' TV show struggled to find real breasts in Miami casting
http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/04/2...g-it-real.html

Quote:
“God is in the details,” said Magic City’s executive producer, writer and Miami Beach native Mitch Glazer. “We were rigorous about everything across the board from music to architecture down to that.”

That meaning breast augmentation.

Producers discovered many women of South Florida have been surgically enhanced beyond anything natural to the late 1950s.

“I’ve actually had better luck finding synchronized swimming groups than I did finding real boobs,” said Bill Marinella, local extras casting director. “We did a lot of research and reached out to burlesque clubs and just finding people on the beach and literally walking up to them on the street and saying, ‘Hey, you look like you’re right out of The Great Gatsby.’ ”

Still... I find that part of the series most unreal.
Was it really that common to have sex in public and swim naked in hotel pools in 1959?

Well, that's just great.
Go $40 million in debt. Get rid of a profitable business that brings jobs and image to the area, then tear down the building that was bringing in the income and spend money that you don't have on a park that doesn't bring in one cent of revenue but will cost a ton of money to maintain.

I don't get it. Why would Sarnoff want to do this? Maybe he's just trying to force Burn Notice to pay more in rent. If so, I'm afraid the producers might call his bluff.

It wouldn't surprise me. For a long time Hollywood has tried to extract(extort?) very low to zero rents from the towns they shoot, in order to increase profits as much as possible. Most towns chuck it up to paying for "advertising and publicity". But increasingly more and more cities and towns are realizing the increased traffic and other headaches the filming industry can cause is not worth the publicity.

Although it isn't on primetime t.v., I just recently saw the movie Step-Up "Revolution" that was filmed in Miami this past year. I may have to see it again because I was more fixated on the skyline and city sites than on the awesome dance moves. Imo, this was probably one of the best films that I have seen in a while that captured Miami in a different light. If you haven't seen it yet, go check it out because I believe it deserves two thumbs up!!

In Sweden, there was this television series about DJ's and how it was to be an up and coming star.
It follows them in Sweden and in the end when they go to Winter Music Conference.

It's six episodes and it's subtitled. If anyone is into that genre; it might be fun.

The rest of the episodes are here. The link above is the first episode, the rest are in order (episode is "avsnitt" in swedish)

4 reasons the American Music Awards were all about Miami

Quote:
If you watched Sunday night's American Music Awards on ABC, then you may have noticed Miami's high presence on the show. Here’s why:

1. The popular awards show's host was Miami rapper Pitbull, who identified himself as "Mr. 305" during the AMAs opening segment.

2. Pitbull was hosting as part of the AMAs celebration of the 25th anniversary of Miami Beach resident Gloria Estefan's appearance on the show as the first Latin performer.

3. Singer-actress Jennifer Lopez, a former Miami Beach resident and minority owner of the Miami Dolphins, brought down the house with her tribute to the Cuban-born queen of salsa, Celia Cruz, whose funeral

was held in Miami.

4. Winning group Macklemore & Ryan Lewis performed live via satellite from AmericanAirlines Arena in downtown Miami and also went political, mentioning murdered Miami-Dade teen Trayvon Martin in their

acceptance speech. "Due to the fact that we are in Florida tonight accepting this award, I want to acknowledge Trayvon Martin and the hundreds and hundreds of kids who are dying each year due to racial profiling and

the violence that follows," Macklemore said.

Probably doesn't apply either but royal caribbean will have a float this year at the Thanksgiving parade. While it doesn't resemble Miami directly its like saying there is a float about the major car companies thereby representing Chicago since the company (along with all the other cruise companies) are headquartered here.
