Novo air, GSA for Tiger Airways of Singapore not Thailand.

As per Bangladesh aviation hub at Facebook
"NoviAir purchased 2 ex-BMI 50-seater twin-jet Embraer-E145 and currently being readied for delivery."

BMI and Flybe is same?
Never expected The Daily Star to make such silly mistakes!

Seperate companies. Bmi now part of AIG (BA/Iberia) while its regional subsidiary,Bmi Regional, was sold earlier this year to a Scottish consortium. AIG have a small stake in Flybe but owned largely by investment company based in tax friendly Jersey.

EMB145 is a fun aircraft to fly. The recession induced cull after I joined Bmi put paid to starting line flying on the aircraft so I only know from simulator and observation flights.

No autothrottle, so a first officer needs to choose his watch carefully if making an impression on visiting attendants was a priority. The electrics are a dream to get your head around as its all DC power and the Brazilians pay a lot of attention to the panel ergonomics which makes EMB metal very popular with lazy pilots.

Eid Mubarak to all. Bon appetit.

Without good LF, high price fares and a comprehensive fare strategy / formula I wish them them well, but these aircraft are completely wrong aircraft for such short hops.

Why, has not anyone gone for Embraer EMB120 aircraft, cheap, efficient, fast and still a turboprop...

I think I should start an airline

Yes, the EMB 120 probably is a good fit aircraft for most of the domestic operations in Bangladesh, given that 4H had only eight pax out there JSR-DAC flight the other day, where they deployed an ATR.

Perhaps you ought to do a startup in Bangladesh and test your ideas.

MALDIVIAN TO START NEW ROUTES IN NOVEMBER 2012

(MALE, August 15, 2012)– Island Aviation Services Ltd is to offer new direct routes to Mumbai,Chennai and Dhaka in November of this year as part of their regional expansion. The additional Maldivian aircraft A320, with 14 seats in the business class and 138 in the economy class will be flying direct bringing an end to a much-anticipated wait of passengers.

The airline will operate three flights per week to Mumbai, Chennai and Dhaka. Flights to Mumbai will be on Wed/Fri/Sun, while flights to Chennai will operate alternatively on Tue/Thu/Sat.

India has a huge potential for travelers and over 30,000 tourists visited Maldives last year according to the Ministry of Tourism. As the number of travelers continues to rise between Maldives and India, Island Aviation Services Ltd. is able to expand its services to other destinations to better meet the needs of travelers.

Direct flights from Mumbai and Chennai will open doors for more tourists to visit the country and provide passengers traveling a much-needed shorter air travel. Island Aviation Services Ltd hopes that this will encourage more Indians to choose Maldives as a holiday destination.

Chennai is vastly known as a strong medical destination where people travel from all over for medical purposes. This direct route offers an alternative to Maldivians who travel for medicals and leisure. The new route to Mumbai hopes to attract many tourists to Maldives who are mostly leisure travelers whereas in Dhaka, Island Aviation Services Ltd expects to target the labour travelers in the field of construction, tourism, hospitality, retail etc.

It all sort of went pear shaped with Bmi after type rating training midway into the financial crisis when the last in, first out reduncancy list was announced at Bmi. My name was on it unfortunately.

I fly to keep my licence current now while waiting for better days. Was an f/o on the 737 prior to Bmi.

That's unfortunate. Unless you're a homebody, why not try outside of British Isles/Europe? I hear there's always a shortage of pilots in the Middle East, and in India (to an extent)?

Just an addition: Flybe is former British European, that's what the 'be' stands for. One of the few airlines who successfully managed to go low-cost from a full service carrier.

While nothing official from Biman, I think it's a combination of both.

I think no question there is interest, but it would be hard to beat Mihin Lanka at this point. Mihin is about to get some competition as Maldivian is planning on MLE-DAC flights (my understanding is that many Mihin passengers connect at CMB to MLE flights).

Hopefully the market will grow and will accommodate more than one carrier.

I heard Biman was looking into it and seems to be in general interested (as per FAA report/request filing for NYC flights) in CMB-MLE flight, but don't see anything concrete.

Of course, our friends at BestAir had one flight to CMB (onward to MLE) 4 years ago, which I think had only one flight out, then stopped - complete disaster - story here: http://www.thedailystar.net/newDesig....php?nid=48119

Best,

Wasim / Planemannyc

The original plan was to cancel the Milan stop as it was near useless for BG. I heard that news couple of months ago. But with the Hajj lease drama by Chairman Jamaluddin, they will be deploying the aircraft to Saudi..there might be temp cut on other routes too.

Jamal was unhappy because Kabo didn't or in other words he couldn't hand in the contract to Kabo. Kabo hired crew member thinking they would get the deal..
