Why is all the left's venom being directed at the UK when Sweden started all this?

Is it because they find it easier to get angry at nasty UK than socialist Sweden?

Traditionally, the left would say "That's it, I'm moving to Sweden", not "I hate nasty right-wing Sweden".

Yeah, pigeon hole everything in terms of left and right, that'll help you understand reality.

Note the word 'look like'. In other words, I'm not actually a meathead leftist thug hoping for a scrap with the police. I only look like one.

Yes. It is easier, actually.

Because unlike racist England, Sweden is not racist.

On topic: Glenn Greenwald has a nice article in the Guardian about the hypocrisy in the West vis-a-vis Ecuador.

Have you ever actually lived in either Sweden or England? Sweden is certainly no less racist than England.

Sweden might be sold to left wing Americans as the ultimate socialist paradise but be assured Sweden has no shortage of knuckle-dragging racist thugs.

Sorry to break it to you, but you're just as likely to get a slap for being a bit black in a rough Swedish bar as you are in a rough English bar.

that video literally shows people being arrested for demonstrating and nothing else. i'm puzzled as to what they are arresting people in that video for.

this is also quite interesting -
http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-...#travelSummary

apparently britons should avoid travel to ecuador which is according to the FCO expecting multiple volcanic eruptions!

weirdly italy which also has volcanoes doesn't have the same warning -
http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-...y/europe/italy

neither does iceland -
http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-...europe/iceland

and argentina is OK despite actual attacks on british businesses over the falklands -

Is this the photo that could clear Assange? Grinning for the camera, WikiLeaks boss and 'Woman A' who says he sexually assaulted her 48 hours earlier

It seems an unremarkable image: a group of friends smiling broadly. But this is the photograph Julian Assange hopes will clear his name.

The face of the woman on the left has been obscured for legal reasons.

For although she is seen beaming, she would later tell police that 48 hours before the picture was taken, the WikiLeaks founder pinned her down in her flat and sexually assaulted her.

If the case ever reaches court – Mr Assange is currently holed up in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London – his lawyers will argue that the photograph undermines the 33-year-old woman’s entire story. And, they claim, there is more.

In the two days after the alleged assault in Sweden, Mr Assange and Woman A, as she is known, attended a conference and two dinner parties where it is claimed they were practically inseparable.

During one party, Woman A tweeted that she was ‘with the world’s coolest, smartest people!’.

I view this conflict as the people's right to be inform vs the government's need to hide information from the public.

Jeremy Renner may play Julian Assange in WikiLeaks film

Quote:
Julian Assange, the man Guardian editor Alan Rusbridger once described as "a compelling character who goes beyond what any Hollywood scriptwriter would dare to invent", may be played by Jeremy Renner in DreamWorks' planned movie version about the inside story of WikiLeaks.

Renner, who is gearing up for the release of The Bourne Legacy – the latest instalment in the spy franchise made famous by Matt Damon – is "looking hard" at playing the outspoken activist, according to the Deadline blog. Bill Condon, the man behind Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn parts one and two, is rumoured to be lined up as director.

DreamWorks' WikiLeaks movie will span the events covered by Guardian journalists David Leigh and Luke Harding's book, WikiLeaks: Inside Julian Assange's War on Secrecy, as well as Daniel Domscheit-Berg's exposé Inside WikiLeaks: My Time with Julian Assange at the World's Most Dangerous Website. Both books were optioned by the studio last year.

Assange, who lost the last of his appeals against extradition to Sweden to face sex crime accusations last month, has requested political asylum at the Ecuadorian embassy in London. His lawyer has argued that his client would not receive a fair trial if forced to return to Sweden.

The WikiLeaks film is thought to be pitched somewhere between The Social Network and All the President's Men, and is one of a number of mooted projects about Assange doing the rounds. Others include a TV movie, in which Anthony LaPaglia plays a cop tracking the young Assange as he embarks on his early career as a hacker in Melbourne, and a fictional account of the activist's adventures in internet dating, by Khodorkovsky director Cyril Tuschi.
And Austrian film coming out this summer.

is there a time limit on claiming asylum in a foreign embassy....I mean how long can this legally go on for? It's reached a complete impass, he won't move for fear (so he says) of being extradited to USA or because he doesn't wanna face the music in Sweden, the Ecuadorian embassy doesn't seem inclined to boot him out, and the British police can't go in there to get him.....

So frankly what's he waiting for, he can't stay in there for the rest of his life, there has to come a point where he faces the music one way or the other, no matter what the outcome. The case is s high profile now that he couldn't be extradited to the US now without the world knowing, and as far as I'm aware both Sweden and the GB have said they will not do this anyway so he's got the media on his side there.....how do they keep feeding him, what clothes is he living out of...aren't people inside the embassy now sick of him?

I was outside the embassy the other day singing, 'Assange Assange give us a wave'.
He did not.

There were about 3 protestors sat across the street and 4 coppers milling around the front. It is 5ft away from Harrods, maybe Assange has food sent in from there? There is reportedly a kitchen, shower and treadmill inside for Assange to use.
