Travel agents on the move
Saturday, September 15, 2007 In response to skyrocketing rents, 16 travel agencies have joined forces to rent a whole gallery in a Sha Tin shopping mall. The agencies are partnering the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corp to create a one-stop travel service gallery at the KCRC-owned City Link Plaza. Currently, 13 of the travel agencies are located in the nearby Sha Tin Town Plaza. They will all relocate to the new premises early next month. "Our current rents are between HK$170 and HK$200 per square foot," Evergloss Tours executive director Steve Huen said. "The per square foot rent of the new premise is only in double digits." Sunflower Travel Services general manager Alcuin Li Wa-keung said the move will help cut their operating costs by as much as 60 percent while providing a more spacious environment. "If we don't move then our customers will have to suffer from the rising costs, and that's something we don't want," Li said. KCRC did not make any special deal with the travel agencies but they were attracted to the new premises by the relatively low rent. NICKKITA LAU

As I remember from my last visiting, more than a year ago, the answer is yes at the second or third floor at the other end by Shatin City Hall. There is a whole bunch of travel agents over there.Well, City Link isn't part of New Town even they are connected. It can be just a head-to-head competition between City Link and New Town or it's a further expansion for the travel agent clusters. With all the people walk in and out of the malls, supporting two shops so nearby may be actually feasible. |

Yup, the Snoopy theme park is located on the roof of NTP, but I'm so disappointed with its size.

Sha Tin Equestrian Pavilion off and running
Staff reporter Monday, November 05, 2007 The Jockey Club yesterday unveiled its latest initiative to boost public interest in equestrian sports and next year's Olympic equestrian events in Hong Kong - the purpose-built Equestrian Pavilion in Penfold Park, Sha Tin. The pavilion will be open until the end of next April and admission is free. Key elements of the pavilion include an electronic book, with pages that turn at the touch of a fingertip, detailing events from when Hong Kong was granted the rights to co-host the Olympic equestrian events until the HKSAR 10th Anniversary Cup eventing competition in August; a hands-on data bank operating through an interactive table interface; the walk-in Captivating Circular Theatre, with a 120-degree curved screen, introducing the Olympics and the equestrian events through an engrossing multimedia presentation; a photo-fun corner enabling visitors to have their photos taken with selected equestrian-related backdrops; models of the equestrian venues; and an Olympic stable and equestrian gear displays. There is also access to outdoor exhibits such as jumping fences and a judging hut used for equestrian events, as well as meeting the club's Shetland ponies "up close and personal." "The finish of the Olympics will not be the end; on the contrary, it signifies the start of the Olympic legacy in Hong Kong," Jockey Club chairman John Chan Cho-chak said. "We have plans to build a permanent Olympics and Olympic Equestrian Museum." Officiating at the opening ceremony were Chan, Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs Carrie Yau Tsang Ka-lai, Zhao Guangting, secretary general of the central government liaison office, and president of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong Timothy Fok Tsun-ting. Other guests included Lam Woon- kwong, chief executive officer of The Equestrian Company; president of the Hong Kong Equestrian Federation Simon Ip Ski-on; chairman of the Hong Kong Paralympics Committee and Sports Association for the Physically Disabled Jenny Fung Ma Kit; and Jockey Club chief executive Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges. The guests were later shown around the interactive exhibits at the pavilion by the club's equestrian ambassador.

Quote:
Sha Tin was a great solution for isolating the mass who were living in poverty back in the 1970s... The presence of this sort of new towns avoided social problems in downtown. Tsim Sha Tsui and Wan Chai had become much more liveable than 30 years ago after most of the lower class and young population moved to new towns. Most of the negative social impacts affect these new towns instead of the downtown, which is a very good phenomenon.
