The fifth edition of Eid in Dubai, the government-led celebrations marking both Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha, will kick off with various celebrations planned across the city. The most visible one will be the Eid fireworks that will take place every night during Eid and will enhance the festive feeling of Eid Al Fitr for all visitors and residents of Dubai.

Preparations for Eid in full swing in UAE

Dubai: Festivity is in air as preparations for Eid celebrations are in full swing.

A heavy rush of customers can be witnessed in city markets of Bur Dubai, Deira and even shopping malls as people buy clothes, sweets and gifts for themselves and their loved ones.

Business this year, said traders, is better compared to last year.

“I started shopping last week and there is still a lot more I need to buy. We all got new clothes stitched and the tailor took three weeks to stitch, so there is long waiting period. Still, I am lucky as many of my friends who were late in giving their clothes are not able to get them on time. As the weekend starts, I hope to finish the remaining shopping today itself,” said Sara Sidiqui, who wasshopping in Deira.

Expatriates have been sending money and gifts back home and are now preparing to celebrate Eid here.

Residents gathered at Grand Musallahs, other mosques across the UAE for special Eid prayers

Quote:

“The traffic build-up was noticeable along roads leading to mosques before 6am as people came early for the special Eid prayers.

We woke up early and the first thing that we did was to pray at the mosque,” Abdul Naeem, 42, a safety professional, told Gulf News. “This day is really special for us, We are very happy after one whole month of fasting and praying,” he added.

Ramadan provided a moment of reflection for Nelson Abdul Nasser, 40, a Filipino waiter who recently embraced Islam. This, being his first Eid, is extra special, he said.

“After Ramadan, I realised that I have won over so many personal battles that used to lead me to sin. Alhamdullilah! This Eid, I can say that I am now at peace with myself; my life has been renewed,” he said.
Masha Allah

Dubai: Huge crowds descended on Dubai during Eid as unrest in neighbouring countries sent visitors flocking to the UAE.

Malls, beaches and markets were packed with families from all across the region, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Oman, in one of the busiest Eid seasons in recent years.

One father on holiday with his children said: “Every Eid we try to visit a new place. We prefer the UAE at the moment as it is a safe place.”

Visitors in Dubai’s heaving malls queued for hours to park cars and get inside at Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates and Deira City Centre.

And Eid travellers told Gulf News they love coming to Dubai because of its vibrance, hospitality and cleanliness.

One visitor, Sulaiman, who has come to Dubai from Saudi Arabia with wife Noora and their one-and-a-half-year-old son Motasim, said he visited renowned places and malls during their six-day vacation.
