Saturday 1st of September 2012 TweetFacebookYahooEmailShareThis LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Sept 1 (PIA) -- The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC)-Baguio regional office conducted mobile outreach services dubbed “Araw ng Propesyonal” last August 29 at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center here.

Provincial Employment Services Office (PESO) Chief Alex Ferrer said the activity was undertaken in partnership with the provincial government to provide residents of Pangasinan with an easy and faster access to the services of the agency.

Potenciano Conte, instructor at Pangasinan State University-Lingayen Campus who availed of the services, said, “It is a nice move of PRC as it saves us from effort and expenses. That is really a public service, reaching out to busy clientele.”

PRC will hold the same activity on the following dates and venues: September 3 at the Urdaneta City Cultural and Sports Center in Urdaneta City; September 24 at the Arenas-Resuello Sports Complex in San Carlos City; October 12 at the Provincial Training and Development Center in Lingayen town; and November 26 at the Bayambang Covered Court in the town of Bayambang.

PRC advised professionals who wish to claim their professional ID card and board certificate on the above schedules to send them an e-mail at prcbaguio.regulations.renewal@gmail.com or text 0921-969-3919 at least three or four working days before the scheduled date with the following information: venue where to claim; complete name; profession; registration number; and date filed. Pangasinan to host Batang Pinoy northern Luzon leg

Quote:
By Liway C. Manantan-Yparraguirre
Friday, August 31, 2012

LINGAYEN -- The province of Pangasinan is hosting the Batang Pinoy Northern Luzon Leg on October 10 to 13.

The leg covers Ilocos Regions, Cagayan Valley, and the Cordilleras.

Executive Assistant III Modesto Operaña, provincial sports director, said the province is preparing to send a strong contingent.

"Governor Amado Espino Jr. has instructed the conduct of province-wide eliminations to select the best young athletes in Pangasinan who will represent the province during the Batang Pinoy Northern Luzon Leg," he said.

The local elimination will be held at the Narciso Ramos and Sports Civic Center (NRSCC) here.

The members of the Pangasinan Mayors League headed by Dasol Mayor Noel Nacar earlier committed to send athletes and selected sports events, which they think they could strongly compete.

The province has 44 towns and four cities. Around 1,000 athletes are expected to play in the elimination games.

Holding the elimination games early, he said, would give the chosen athletes ample time to train for the Northern Luzon Leg.

Meanwhile, Operaña said the province is adopting the strategy implemented when it successfully hosted the Palarong Pambansa last May.

Prior to the elimination games, he had instructed Engineer II Romulo R. Delos Santos and NRSCC In-Charge Myra Romero to check the sports facilities and playing venues.

Coordination has also been made with the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office to ensure that peace, order and security of the participants in the playing venues outside NRSCC will be secured all throughout the elimination games.

Likewise, Provincial Board Secretary Verna Nava-Perez checked on the availability and workability of the sports equipment donated to the province by the Department of Education after the Palarong Pambansa 2012.

Nava-Perez headed the Palarong Pambansa local secretarial, and is also the Batang Pinoy Northern Luzon Leg secretariat chief.

And just like in the Palarong Pambansa, the 270 technical officials will be housed at the NRSCC.

As a part of the province's preparations for the elimination games, which will be participated in by some 1,000 expected athletes (15 years and below) and sports officials, Provincial Sports Director Operania has urged the department and office heads present during the meeting to adopt the strategy done by the provincial government during the hosting of Palarong Pambansa last May.

The Batang Pinoy Program is organized by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) while the Palarong Pambansa is run by the DepEd.

The Batang Pinoy athletes composed of students and out-of school youths aged 15 years old and below represents the local government units (LGUs).

And the LGUs in Pangasinan, said Operaña, are expected to send the best athletes in their municipalities and cities who will later compete in the 18 sporting events. (Sunnex)

Monthly medical checkup, consultation for employees among best LGU practices in Pangasinan

Quote:
LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Sept. 1 (PNA) -- Employees of the provincial government here continue to receive free medical checkup and consultation monthly under the auspices of the Provincial Healthy Habit Club (PHHC) to ensure that they stay physically fit.

Dr. Anna de Guzman, provincial health officer, said members of PHHC are assured free medical checkup and consultation as part of the continuing effort of the administration of Gov. Amado Espino Jr. to make employees healthy.

De Guzman said last Aug. 29 alone, some 3,000 provincial employees availed of these services during a monthly checkup and consultation at the Pangasinan Training and Development Center.

“A healthy body means a sound mind,” De Guzman said, adding that employees can perform better if they are healthy and free from any sickness.

Consequently, this monthly medical checkup and consultation for provincial government employees -- unprecedented in the history of the province -- is among the newest best local government practices of Pangasinan LGU today.

Human Resources Management Office (HRMO) officer-in-charge Janette Asis called on all provincial employees to register and become active members of the PHHC.

Members, she said, can avail of free medical benefits (free medicines, free vitamins) regularly to ensure their healthy lifestyle.

Aside from checking the blood pressure, cholesterol count and vital signs, employees, specifically the smokers are being treated with free lung function testing, foot Doppler testing for those who have high blood sugar, eyes therapy, body massage, and random blood sugar testing.

The free monthly medical checkup and consultation for provincial government employees has been going on for almost two years now.

This was after Governor Espino signed an executive order seeking the creation of healthy habit wellness program.

The wellness program is a pet project of Espino as a part of his administration’s thrust to improve the quality of services rendered by employees (regulars, casuals and job orders). (PNA)

Filipinos in Guam welcome Our Lady of Manaoag

Quote:
By Josephine Darang
Philippine Daily Inquirer

Share

OUR LADY of Manaoag in the St. Anthony Church in Guam
While tenor Samuel Acosta of the Powervoice Choir sang Schubert’s “Ave Maria,” the flower-bedecked carroza bearing Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag was borne in a procession to the altar of the Church of St. Anthony in Tamuning, Guam.

Welcoming Our Lady to the altar were Msgr. Brigido Arroyo, parish priest, and Fathers Karl Vila, Rudy Arejola, Mario Ortiz and Val Rodriguez.

The congregation, which included the Federation of Pangasinenses, was moved to tears. In the processional were Philippine Consul Gary Auxilian and Lolita Gagaoin, president of the Pangasinan Ladies Club of Guam.

Everyone was moved. As Fr. Karl Vila said in his homily, “Our Lady of Manaoag is here to stay in St. Anthony de Padua & St. Victor Church. This is her new home.”

Edna Ouano Toral of Mandaue, Cebu, has been donating the three-ft-tall image of Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag since 1996 to churches after she was healed of complicated ulcers in 1994, a miracle she attributed to the intercession of Our Lady.

She donated the first image to the Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Joseph in Mandaue City in 1996. Since then, she has donated 100 icons to churches in the Visayas and Mindanao.

In 1996, after I wrote about the Mandaue enthronement, Sen. Elizabeth Arriola of Guam wrote Toral and asked for the donation. But the request went unheeded for 16 years. Toral recently had a dream of the Virgin of Manaoag telling her, “Bring me to Guam.”

Fr. Patricio Apa, OP, former parish priest of the Manaoag shrine in Pangasinan, approved the donation.

So I wrote Consul General Bayani Mangibin of Guam if the Philippine community would accept the donation. “Please bring her,” he replied.

Divine intervention

Powervoice Choir of Ilagan, Isabela, came to sing in the Guam celebration. This must have been the result of divine intervention.

Aurora Lazo of SM Lazo Medical Center, and president of the Stewards and Friends Foundation, had offered to bring the choir to Guam at her expense.

But the real miracle was that all 11 choir members were given US visas at short notice: Aljun P. de la Peña, leader of the group; Samuel G. Acosta Jr.; Christopher C. Nuez; Reynaldo A. Laureta; Dominador M. Galasinao Jr.; Alvin Roco B. Miranda; Myke Jordan D. Yasto; Christopher James I. Lugo, bass; Joemarie A. Manalo, organist and musical director; Joanna Marie Paz B. Arcaina; and Michelle S. Miro.

Another miracle was that Al Arriesgado, sculptor of the image, was given his first US visa. I, too, had a difficulty getting a visa, so I prayed to Mama Mary and the saints, so lo and behold, it came in the morning of Aug. 15, feast of the Assumption. Meanwhile, my friend Ali Rich Garcia had his flight confirmed on Aug. 15 by United Airlines.

Our Lady’s seat

For the first time, United Airlines had an image of the Virgin Mary as passenger because Toral paid for her seat. Bobby Hernandez, an airline officer, fixed her seat at the back of the plane carefully covering her with blankets to prevent damage. On the seats beside her were Marco Toral and Dr. Gardenia Larrazabal.

Arrival in Guam

On a wheelchair, Al Arriesgado carried the image on his lap through immigration and out the airport. Consul Auxilian brought the image to the consulate for a one-day stay, so the staff could be blessed.

Auxilian was very happy because he said he could never visit her in Manaoag, but now as fate would have it, she was able to make it to Guam.

We would like to thank the executive officers of the Pangasinan women’s club for making our Guam visit meaningful: Lolita V. Gagaoin, Rosalina Datuin, Bella Marquez, Lily O. Antolin, Jean Hutchison, Analiz B. See, Gloria Guico Rivo, Thelma Barrozo, Lilia A. Basto, Alili May Antolin-Aquino and Nenita Rivo.

Board of directors: Magdalena Acosta, Teresita Callo, Luningning Fernandez, Zeny M. Palisoc, Lyn Caburian, Lydia P. Tangonan, Elizabeth Field, Mercedes Parayno, Clariza Aviles and Chenoa Hutchison.

Also thanks to Tita Nelly Tinsay, a retired nurse; Sr. Lucia Arriola Pablo, a retired discalced Carmelite; Angie Roman and Magnosita Manjares for the despedida breakfast they hosted on the Sunday we left Guam.

SMB expands annual tree planting project

Quote:
Thursday, August 30, 2012

BEER market leader San Miguel Brewery Inc. (SMB) held its third year of nationwide tree planting project with the commitment of increased number of seedlings for planting and participation of employee volunteers.

The project, dubbed as SMB Trees Brew Life-Year III, a component of the company's major environmental advocacy program called "Buhayin ang Kalikasan" formally commenced last August 4 at Baranggay Nabuklod in Floridablanca, Pampanga, a tourist destination now being developed by the Provincial Government.

This year, in all Saturdays of August, SMB has targetted more than 12,500 seedlings with participation of close to 1,400 personnel from its head office, domestic breweries and sales offices nationwide.

The figures represent an enormous increase from the 450 seedlings and 300 employee volunteers when the project was launched in 2010.

"Paano tayo nagtagumpay? Nadagdagan ang bilang ng aming employee volunteers ngayong taon dahil nakiisa na sa puwersa ang aming mga kaibigan sa business sector at media mula sa iba't ibang dako ng Pilipinas. Dumami rin ang ating itatanim dahil sa kagandahang-loob ng ating program partners mula sa government, NGOs, private sector at partner communities," SMB president Roberto N. Huang said in the opening ceremonies.

Last August 4, Huang together with members of the SMB Operations Committee, were joined by around 500 employees from San Miguel San Fernando Brewery and sales personnel in the Central and North Luzon Area.

Approximately 1,500 casuy and coconut seedlings were planted on that day to help augment the livelihood of more than 300 Aetas residing in the picturesque Baranggay Nabuklod.

Huang thanked their partners from various sectors for the success of its flagship environmental project, attributing their partnership to San Miguel Beer's tagline "samahan walang katulad."

"Samahang walang katulad. Kapag naririning natin ang katagang ito, ang unang pumapasok sa ating isipan ay San Miguel Beer. Alam ko na marami sa atin ang patuloy na pinapasaya ng aming world-class beers at dahil dito, kami ay lubos pusong nagpapasalamat sa inyong patuloy na pagtangkilik. Truly we are proud to be with SMB because you give us the privilage of delighting you in so many ways through our products and service," Huang said.

On August 11, SMB simultaneously planted in another tourist destination, at Tayak Hill in Rizal, Laguna and at Baranggay Sta. Cruz in Davao del Sur.

It was followed on August 18 at Mandaue City. On August 25, SMB concluded its treeplanting for this year at Baranggay Granada in Bacolod and also in the province of Rizal.

Apart from the weekly planting in the month of August, SMB also held satellite treeplanting and environmental regeneration activities in Cagayan Valley, Nueva Ecija, Pangasinan, Camarines Sur, Rizal Province, Davao del Sur, Tacloban, and Iloilo for the rest of the year.

The SMB Buhayin ang Kalikasan program came into fruition after the company was bestowed the Best Managed Subsidiary Award three years ago by it strategic partner Kirin Japan. The company utilized the cash reward to launch its flagship corporate social responsibility program for the environment which is composed of projects on tree planting, coastal clean-up, and recycling, among others.

Davao Brewery planted 300 seedlings on August 25 in Darong and another 500 seedlings in Sta Cruz on August 25.

Published in the Sun.Star Davao newspaper on August 31, 2012.

writing pangasinan literature urged

Quote:
By Alex Romeo R. Fernandez

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, August 1 (PIA) -- Professional writers in this province urged blooming literary writers in a workshop Saturday to use the local language as their medium.

Poet Santiago Villafania said the Pangasinan language lacks a large body of literature compared to other local languages.

Critics in writers’ workshop in Manila and the Cordilleras are always asking why there are very few pieces of literature written in the language, he added.

Author and lawyer Ferdinand Quinto noted that Pangasinan literature is already in long hiatus.

Villafania and Quinto, along with Editor-in-Chief Sergio Bumadilla, served as the panelists during the first Pangasinan Writers’ Workshop held at the Capitol Resort Hotel here.

Attending the workshop were at least 20 individuals who participated in the First Pangasinan Literary Contest Kurit Panlunggaring last April.

Non-winning entries in the literary contest were critiqued in the workshop, where the local language was used exclusively.

After the forum, the attendees organized a group, which they voted to name Kapi-Tuyaw. It is derived from kapitolyo and tuyaw, which means capitol and meeting, respectively.

Ma. Luisa Elduayan, head of the provincial tourism offie, organizer of the event, promised to name after the group a shed along the Lingayen Gulf adjacent to the Capitol.

Pangasinan’s ASNA Award Winner for Literature Santiago Villafania is a poet in the Pangasinan language. Pinabli (Beloved) is his latest collection of poems. Bumadilla, meanwhile, is the editor-in-chief of Balon Silew, a quarterly magazine in the local language. (ANL/ARRF-PIA 1 Pangasinan)

(PNA)
