Govt, private sector put 16 key farm products into clusters, set out goals for AEC

The Agriculture Ministry has identified 16 flagship products and grouped them into clusters with a view to further penetration of the regional market and cashing in on the upcoming Asean Economic Community (AEC).
Agriculture Minister Theera Wongsamut yesterday said a meeting of the joint government-private sector subcommittee had held an in-depth discussion regarding agricultural products with high potential for further marketing within Asean.

The meeting was attended by representatives from associations covering 16 agricultural sectors: rice, sugar cane, tapioca, maize, pineapple, sweet corn, longan, oil palm, rubber trees, pigs, beef cattle, dairy cattle, chicken meat, layer hens, sea shrimp and tuna.

The aim of the discussion was to gather ideas from the private sector and to prepare the agricultural sector for the further opening up of Asean when the AEC comes into effect in 2015.

The private sector called for government’s support and cooperation in developing the strength of local agricultural businesses, so that they are more competitive and can maintain their leadership position in Asean.

Such cooperation should be extended to other member countries within Asean, in the areas of production, trading and investment, the representatives said.



SEVEN CLUSTERS

Theera said that based on the discussion, seven clusters had been created and goals identified, as follows:

1. Rice, tapioca, sweet corn and tuna - sectors in which Thailand is a leading trading nation and should be the leader in the AEC single market.

The rice sector requires cooperation between the government and the private sector in developing a wider variety of native species, while jasmine rice species should have more value and uniqueness.

The government should |import raw tapioca and tapioca chips from neighbouring countries for more processing and adding value to the Kingdom's production.

The government should promote increased local consumption and look for new potential markets for exporting sweet corn, while for tuna it should |promote investment in processing facilities in neighbouring countries.

2. Rubber, sugar cane, pineapple, oil palm, dairy cattle and sea shrimp - products for which Thailand is a leading country for manufacturing, exporting and a potential trading centre in the AEC.

The government should have a policy to import concentrated liquid rubber from neighbouring countries for use in mid-stream industry for rubber production in Thailand. It should also urge all other Asean nations to become members of the International Rubber Consortium by having a management and administration centre in Thailand in order to provide a platform for discussion and negotiation on rubber and related issues and ensure maximum marketing efficiency.

Thailand should pioneer the formation of an Asean Palm Oil Federation and encourage all Asean member states to become members.

3. Layer hens and pigs - these are sectors in which Thailand produces for local consumption.

4. Chicken meat - a sector in which Thailand should maintain its position as a trading country.

5. Longan - a sector in which the Kingdom should maintain its position as leading manufacturing and trading country.

6. Maize - where Thailand should maintain its position as a net importer. The private sector, however, suggested that local production should be promoted to replace imports, besides which Thai investors should |be encouraged to have production facilities in neighbouring countries and bring the output back to Thailand for further |processing.

7. Beef cattle - where Thailand will step forward as the production base in the region. The government should create a five-year plan.

Thailand ready to expand halal food exports


PHUKET, Sept 5 – Thailand is emerging as a more prominent halal food exporter, having earned sixth place in the global market share.

Deputy Commerce Minister Poom Sarapol said Thailand ranks 15th in the world and first in Asia as a manufacturer and exporter of halal food—food that is permissible for Muslims to eat – thanks to an abundant supply of fresh food in the country.

He was optimistic that Thailand will become world leader in exporting halal food in the future.

Current leading exporters are Australia, Brazil, Argentina, Canada, India, New Zealand, UK and US. Australia exports halal food to more than 70 countries worldwide while Brazil’s market strongholds were in the Middle East, Turkey and Europe.

Last year, Thailand exported halal food to 57 countries with a total billing of US$6.82 billion, a 43.35 per cent increase year-on-year. The export volume in the first seven months of this year was US$3.89 billion.

Mr Poom on Wednesday presided at an international seminar entitled “Phuket-Andaman-Halal for Tourism in 2012” in this southern island province with international dignitaries and diplomats including Surin Pitsuwan, ASEAN secretary general, attending. (MCOT online news)

3 องค์กรปรับลดเป้าส่งออกอาหารลง 2หมื่นล้าน หลังเจอวิกฤติยุโรปและยอดขายข้าวลดวูบ
นายอมร งามมงคลรัตน์ รองผู้อำนวยการสถาบันอาหาร เปิดเผยว่า สถาบันอาหาร สภาอุตสาหกรรมแห่งประเทศไทย (ส.อ.ท.) และหอการค้าไทยได้ปรับลดเป้าส่งออกอาหารในปี 2555 จาก 1 ล้านล้านบาท เหลือ 980,000 ล้านบาทหรือลดลง 20,000 ล้านบาท เนื่องจากผลกระทบจากวิกฤตหนี้สาธารณะในกลุ่มประเทศยูโรโซนเริ่มลุกลามกระทบต่ออุตสาหกรรมอาหารกว่าที่ประเมินไว้ รวมถึงยอดส่งออกข้าวมีปริมาณลดลงจากราคาที่ถูกกว่าประเทศคู่แข่งมาก

ทั้งนี้แม้จะมีการปรับเป้าลงเหลือมูลค่า 980,000 ล้านบาทแต่มูลค่าเพิ่มจากช่วงเดียวกันของปีก่อน 1.6% แบ่งเป็น ข้าว มูลค่า 146,781 ล้านบาท ลดลง 25.2%,น้ำตาลทราย 127,812 ล้านบาท เพิ่ม 16.8%, กุ้ง 106,383 ล้านบาท ลดลง 3.5%, ทูน่ากระป๋องและแปรรูป 77,883 ล้านบาท เพิ่ม 12.3%, ผลิตภัณฑ์มันสำปะหลัง 62,450 ล้านบาท เพิ่ม 6.9%, ผลไม้กระป๋องและแปรรูป 35,812 ล้านบาท ลดลง 9.7%, ปลากระป๋องและแปรรูป 22,305 เพิ่ม 15.5% เป็นต้น



“การส่งออกอาหารไทยในช่วง 8 เดือนแรกที่ผ่านมาพบว่าอาเซียนยังเป็นตลาดส่งออกอันดับ 1 ของไทย มีสัดส่วน 24% เพิ่มขึ้น 20.6%, รองลงมาเป็นญี่ปุ่น มีสัดส่วน 15% เพิ่มขึ้น 14.6%, ส่วนการส่งออกไปสหรัฐ ลดลง 10.4%, ยุโรป ลดลง 5 % เป็นต้น ส่วนใหญ่ประสบปัญหาจากการส่งออกข้าว ผลไม้ แปรรูป กุ้งแช่แข็ง ผักสด นายอมร กล่าวและว่า แนวโน้มการส่งออกอาหารไทยในปี 56 คาดว่ามีมูลค่า 1.03-1.08 ล้านล้านบาท เพิ่มจากปี 55 ประมาณ 5-10% โดยมีสมมติฐานเศรษฐกิจโลกต้องขยายตัวในระดับ 3% ค่าเงินบาท เฉลี่ยที่ 30 บาทต่อดอลลาร์สหรัฐ และ ราคาสินค้าเกษตรอาหาร ต้องเพิ่มขึ้นจากปีนี้ประมาณ 5%

การเดินทางมายังจังหวัดเชียงใหม่เพื่อเจรจาการค้ากับกลุ่มบริษัท ฮะเฮง อินเตอร์เฟรช จำกัด ซึ่งเป็นผู้ส่งออกผลไม้รายใหญ่

ราย หนึ่งของประเทศไทย ที่ผ่านมาบริษัทสั่งซื้อลำไยผ่านบริษัท PT.RUMAH PIKAT บริษัทในเครือที่นำเข้าผลไม้จากกลุ่มฮะเฮงอยู่แล้วแต่ไม่มากเพียง 250 ตู้คอนเทนเนอร์ต่อปี (ตู้ละ 25 ตัน)

การบันทึกข้อตกลงทางการค้า ครั้งนี้ กลุ่มฮะเฮงจะป้อนสินค้าให้ห้าง MATAHARI จาก 3 ตู้คอนเทนเนอร์/สัปดาห์ เพิ่มเป็น 9 ตู้คอนเทนเนอร์/สัปดาห์ ได้แก่ ลำไย 4 ตู้คอนเทนเนอร์ ทุเรียน 4 ตู้คอนเทนเนอร์ ลิ้นจี่ 1 ตู้คอนเทนเนอร์ มูลค่าประมาณ 5 ล้านบาท/สัปดาห์ รวมทั้งสิ้น 468 ตู้คอนเทนเนอร์/ปี คิดเป็นมูลค่า 260 ล้านบาท/ปี นอกจากนี้ยังสนใจนำเข้าผลไม้ชนิดอื่น ๆ อาทิ มะม่วงน้ำดอกไม้ ขิง และมะขามเปียก

นายถิระนันท์ ภัทรกุล สถิระพงษะสุทธิ กรรมการผู้จัดการ บริษัท ฮะเฮง อินเตอร์เฟรช จำกัด เปิดเผยว่า การบันทึกข้อตกลงความร่วมมือทางการค้าครั้งนี้ดำเนินการภายใต้บริษัท ฟรุ๊ตมาสเตอร์ จำกัด ซึ่งเป็นบริษัทส่งออกในเครือกลุ่มฮะเฮง เป็นโอกาสที่จะขยายตลาดผลไม้ไปยังประเทศอินโดนีเซียได้มากขึ้น ปัจจุบันกลุ่ม MATAHARI นำเข้าผลไม้จากกลุ่มฮะเฮงประมาณ 30% และจะส่งผลไม้เข้าสู่ห้าง MATAHARI ได้อีกหลายชนิด เช่น ขนุน มะขามหวาน และชมพู่ เป็นต้น

นอกจากนี้ยังเตรียมจัดกิจกรรมส่งเสริมการขายผลไม้ "Fruit Promotion" ในประเทศอินโดนีเซียเพื่อขยายตลาดผลไม้ให้กว้าง และเข้าถึงผู้บริโภค

Thailand set to boost Halal food industry with Kuwait: PM

KUWAIT, Oct 16 - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra reaffirmed close ties between Thailand and Kuwait and pledged that Thailand is ready to cooperate with the Middle Eastern country to produce Halal food for the world.

The Thai premier made her remarks as she hosted a reception for the Thai and Kuwaiti business communities as she arrived in Kuwait, at the opening of her three-day visit there.

Ms Yingluck said Thailand and Kuwait have had a close relationship for nearly 50 years and the value of mutual trade between the two countries has increased by 185 per cent in the past five years.

In the first half of this year, about 40,000 Kuwait tourists visited Thailand, she said.

The Thai prime minister stated that Thailand's economic fundamentals remain strong: some US$74 billion is being invested for additional basic infrastructure development including transport routes connecting Thailand with neighbouring countries, expansion of international airports, and joint investment in Myanmar's Dawei deep-sea port which will link Thailand with India and the Middle East.

Regarding economic cooperation between Thailand and Kuwait, Ms Yingluck highlighted the concept "Kitchen to the World". She said that exports of Halal food have increased by 30 per cent compared to last year, and an efficient standardised Halal food industrial estate has been established in the country's southern region.

She said Thailand expects to cooperate with Kuwait in producing and exporting Halal food to the world community.

Ms Yingluck added Thai businesspersons who accompanied her during this trip are also keen to invest in the energy, public health and tourism industries here.

The Thai premier is scheduled to attend the opening ceremony of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) summit, along with the leaders of 32 countries today.

As Thailand is an ACD coordinating country, Ms Yingluck will speak on Thailand's role in tourism, finance and human resources.

ACD was inaugurated in June 2002 in Cha-Am, Thailand, where 18 Asian Foreign Ministers met together for the first time. A continent-wide forum, ACD aims to build links in Asia incorporating every Asian country, building an Asian community without duplicating other organisations or creating a bloc against others.

The grouping currently comprises 30 countries from East to West Asia, including Bahrain, Bangladesh, Brunei, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, Republic of Korea, Kuwait, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Philippines, Oman, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, United Arab Emirates and Vietnam, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Thailand tapped as rice stockpiler for the world

The Commerce Ministry may seek funding from the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) to build a large rice silo in a move to establish Thailand as a food stockpiler for the world.

Commerce Minister Boonsong Teriyapirom said Thailand is in a very good position to become a stockpiler that can ensure the world's food security.

Food security was highlighted at a recent ACD summit in Kuwait.

The ACD was created in 2002 to promote Asian cooperation at a continental level and to help integrate regional cooperation among organisations such as Asean, the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

The ACD was founded by 18 members and now comprises 31 states including all Asean and GCC members. It covers 60% of the world's population.

At the summit, Kuwait proposed setting up a US$2-billion development fund for members under the ACD framework by initially offering seed money of $300 million through the Asian Development Bank.

Mr Boonsong said Thailand is interested in securing that fund to create food security for Thailand and the world.

"Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has assigned the Commerce, Industry and Foreign ministries to monitor the fund closely in order to determine how Thailand can secure finance for a large rice silo that can stock rice for seven or eight years," he said.

"More discussion is needed among officials of these ministries."

Thailand can produce about 32 million tonnes of paddy a year, but existing silo facilities can stock rice for only two or three years.

In a related development, the government's official visit and trade mission to the Middle East from Oct 13-19 received a good response, bringing purchase orders from Kuwait worth not less than 50 million baht and from the UAE worth not less than 70 million baht for delivery within a year.

Two-way trade between Thailand and the Middle East amounted to $29.9 billion in the first eight months of this year, with Thai exports accounting for $7.79 billion.

Key exports included cars and parts, air-conditioners, rice, gems and jewellery, canned seafood and processed food.

Five-nation rice industry federation planned for Asean

Thailand and Vietnam are preparing for the establishment of the region's first federation of rice producers and millers, comprising five countries, during next month's Asean Leaders Summit.

The idea would coincide with Asean's plan to promote growth of the agriculture industry, boost incomes for farmers, and ensure food security in the region.

Commerce Minister Boonsong Teriyapirom said Asean leaders were expected to announce the establishment of the federation at the summit in Cambodia.

Rice-industry cooperation was a major topic of a meeting between Thailand and Vietnam this past weekend. Thailand's Foreign Trade Department will talk with Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia to secure cooperation under the concept as well, Boonsong said.

Under the concept, Thailand will support investment in silos and warehouses in Vietnam to increase rice-stockpiling efficiency and bargaining power for Vietnamese rice producers.

Because of Vietnam's low rice-storage capacity, it has to ship rice quickly after it is harvested. Thus it has low bargaining power to boost prices in the world rice market.

Meanwhile, Boonsong will soon meet with newly appointed Deputy Commerce Minister Nutthawut Saikua and senior officials on the division of responsibilities after the Cabinet reshuffle.

Boonsong said he would resume direct responsibility for the International Trade Promotion Department.

Nuttawut is expected to be responsible for the Business Development Department, the Intellectual Property Department, the Support Arts and Crafts International Centre of Thailand, and the Gem and Jewellery Institute of Thailand.

โดยเฉพาะซิดนีย์ ร้านอาหารไทยเยอะมากๆ (ไม่คิดว่ามันจะเยอะขนาดนี้ )แถวถนน Campbell ถ่ายไม่ไหว เลิกถ่ายเลย. ทั้งทริปกินร้านอาหารไทยแทบทุกมื้อ ,แต่ 80% รสชาติเข้าขั้นย่ำแย่

ร้านอาหารไทยในซิดนีย์ดังจริงๆครับ น่าจะนิยมอันดับต้นๆเลย ในออสเตรเลียจะมีร้านอาหารไทยเกือบทุกเมืองและรสชาติก็จะคล้ายๆกันทำให้คนที่นั่นกิน โดยเฉพาะแกงต่างๆจะใส่กะทิเข้มข้นออกหวานไม่เผ็ด
เรื่องห้างปิดเร็วคงเป็นเรื่องต้นทุนและการจ้างงาน แต่ยังดีที่มี Supermarket เปิดอยู่
