My 2011 Korea trip got off to a luxurious start onboard Cathay Pacific's Business Class. While the seats are old and don't lie-flat, my favourite drink was available for unlimited consumption.

Insadong is a popular place for souvenir hunters and gastropods. Anyone want to try some these local delicacies?

Some of these translations aren't so helpful. For a clueless tourist, "doenjang jjigae" means ...

It's a summer day. Fan, anyone?

You can't go hungry walking around Seoul.

This redevelopment has beautified its front lawn with plenty of farm crops.

Seoul's subway system is very extensive and easy to use. Each station is numbered and it's easy to enter and leave with a swipe of the T-money card.

Yeouido is an island on the Han River, which separates Seoul into two.

The buses are colour-coded. Sometimes it gets confusing so I usually opt for the subway instead.

The taxis are also colour-coded. Black taxis are deluxe and charge more, while orange ones are less expensive and the drivers speak a little English.

Being an old royal capital, Seoul is famous for its palaces. Yet tourists don't know there are also a lot of royal tombs in town. I set out to the suburbs to see for myself how the old royals are buried.

A few houses dot the entrance to the burial mound.

Various statues guard the burial mound.

Not all mounds allow public access. The views from the top of the mound are quite good though.

Royals are often buried together over a large plot of land, separated by different mounds.

Seoul has grown tremendously since the end of the royal dynasty. This burial area is now in the heart of Gangnam.

I didn't have Korean food all the time. Tonight, I opted for some sushi which tasted really good.

Seoul has a lot of funky architecture.

Yet ... this stands across the street.

Thanks for the wonderful pictures.
This one especially catches my attention. Eye sores of Seoul and great places of Seoul seem to make such a contrast. I just wonder what the hell the do-nothing mayor of Seoul is thinking of at this time, perhaps a bottle of Soju at one of those illegal dingy side walk-food stands in the corner of a busy street.
