Nothing really confusing about the data. It's just how one interprets it.

So West Bengal's poverty rate was reduced from 68.3% when the left came to power to 26.7% when the Left was kicked out. So poverty was brought down considerably in this period. But other states like Maharashtra or Tamil Nadu also performed well. India actually ddn't do as well.

I am not sure about the authenticity of the following blog or the wikipedia article but if all that is true then why to blame only Pritam or Jeet Ganguli

Will Didi leave UPA II and give up Rail Ministry and other ministries?

Hopefully she sticks to UPA II and extracts as much benefits for WB as she can manage by staying as part of the government.

Also she should not allow the BJP-Left Bandh in West Bengal.

Mamata Banerjee's TMC to recall ministers from Central government without withdrawing support

http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/...w/16427934.cms

Quote:
With Congress determined not to let Mamata Banerjee veto policy decisions, her Trinamool Congress is set to recall its ministers from the central government over the recent rush of economic reforms without withdrawing support to the ruling coalition.

A senior leader of the Trinamool Congress told ET that Banerjee will announce resignation of her party's ministers on Tuesday, soon after the expiry of the 72-hour deadline that she has set for the Centre to withdraw the fuel price hike and the decision to allow foreign supermarkets into the country. "She will wait for the next big policy confrontation to withdraw support to Congress-led government at the Centre," the leader said, adding that the West Bengal-based party is planning a graded disengagement from Congress.

"We will take drastic decisions on Tuesday. We cannot support anti-people measures of the Centre," said Sudip Bandopadhyay, leader of the Trinamool Congress parliamentary group in the Lok Sabha. The Trinamool Congress chief had described recent decisions of the central government as "open loot."

The railway ministry, handled by the Trinamool Congress, may be handed over to a Congress minister.

TMC have withdrawn the ministers from the govt. Not sure whether she has withdrawn support also. This would mean further setback for Bengal.

she has kept her options open. If she had been serious about quitting, she would have put down her papers with immediate effect..i.e. max by tomorrow morning!

This so called "unanimous" decision of Mamata will start her downfall. She is always talking of so called "Poor People", but forgetting that millions of middle class like me voted for her with a thinking, there would be change in the industry scenario and job creation in WB. At least, she could get substantial amount of fund for the infrastructure projects from centre.

In fact I had high hopes when she invited pro-capitalist persons like Amit Mitra to contest election. But she chose to suppress the voice of such learned person like Amit, Trivedi. After 1 & 1/2 yrs of rule, she is not only a failure in industry front but also a failure in maintaining law & order. So there would be another 3 years of stagnency in WB before we are allowed to decide our fate again.

today Amit Mitra gave an interview in Cnn-IBN... have a look at it..he was pretty aggressively defending the decision..may be you will get a different perspective...doesn't look like his voice was suppressed.. I was quite surprised to hear him with this tone..

Just now saw the interview, and his defense mostly being political and not economic. He spoke like a true TMC person.

But as a common people, should we be happy that our leaders are able to defend their decision in media? Does this make ecenomic sense? I am sure most of the projects funded by centre would be in trouble (no matter how much assurance Amit Mitra give). In fact TOI reports says that projects announced by Mamata during her tenure in railway ministry in 1999-2000 did not progress until she became minister again in 2009. So a good 10 years delay.

Economic reforms is a must and that is what the centre did. Even with increase of Rs.5/ltr, govt is still giving subsidy. How long can we really survive with this? If Mamata is really concerned, she can stop taking the state taxes. So even if
WB chose to destroy itself, other states can move ahead. And for the FDI in retail is concerned, why there is such knee-jerk reaction. It's upto state to implement. So Mamata can block it in WB.
