Tahimik pero may construction sa loob ng dating Isabel Cinema. May second floor silang nilalagay.

Yun kasi advantage ngayon ng SM Hypermarket at Puregold over SaveMore.

A trip to Adams town in Ilocos Norte

By Kaye Mangabat

ADAMS, ILOCOS NORTE— In a valley up north is Adams, an undiscovered town rich in culture and blessed with natural wonders.

Going there is already an adventure because you have to go through a rocky road before reaching the town. If you want to use your own vehicle, make sure that it is built for driving off-road.

Here are a few activities that you might want to try while visiting Adams:
Hike in a nearby rainforest --- If you are fond with the scent of nature and green scenery, you can hike in a forest nearby. Make sure to bring a bottle of water when you hike because there are lots of obstacles along the way.

Catch the sun rise on top of Mt. Magnas and Pico de Loro--- You can start your day by waking up early to catch the astonishing view while feeling the cool mountain breeze on the high mountain top. This will surely energize you throughout the day.

Trek to Anuplig Falls--- If you’re craving for more adventure, a trek to Anuplig Falls is one of the great ways to experience and satisfy your desire.
Before you get there, you will be clinging on to vines, going up on slippery and steep slopes and stepping on large stones patched on a loose eroded soil. A rewarding picturesque view of crystal-clear waterfalls will be your prize. You can also take a swim after the trek.

Take a dip at Bolu River--- On your way back, don’t forget to pass by the turquoise water of Bolu River. Many locals fish along the river banks. You will see huts near rice fields and hanging bridges that locals traverse from one town to another.

Learn more about the local culture--- Adams is not a typical tourist spot where you can find inns and hotels thus the locals show their hospitality by offering “home stay” accommodations at a reasonable price of 250 pesos a night. Not only will you save money, but you’ll also surely make new friends. You’ll also get to know firsthand information about local cultures and packed a lot of stories on your way back home.

Adams indeed is a hidden town worth visiting when you’re in Ilocos Norte.

Malacanang of the North brings back old grandeur

PAOAY, Ilocos Norte, Sept 20 (PIA) –- One of Ilocos Norte’s tourism centerpieces, the Malacañang ti Amianan (Malacañang of the North), has been given a facelift, bringing back the grandeur that the former vacation house radiated during the Marcos administration.

The Philippine Tourism Authority had control and administration of the Malacañang structure until the Aquino administration turned over its supervision to the Ilocos Norte provincial government in December 2010.

Governor Imee Marcos had the structure refurbished as one of the provincial government’s tourism centerpieces, drawing hundreds of sightseers at any given day.

The property underwent renovations and has been converted as a Malacanang museum in time for the late president’s 95th birthday last September 11.

Professor Eric Zerrudo, director of the University of Sto. Tomas Center for Conservation of Cultural Property and Environment in the Tropics, was commissioned to underscore significant periods during the Marcos administration.

He said the two-storey mansion now boasts of seven rooms namely the Study, Agriculture, Diplomacy, OFW, Culture, Nation Building and Family – each room providing viewers a glimpse of history and iconic images of the Marcos era.

The Study Room features the late President’s extensive book collection arranged elegantly on the bookshelves.

The Agriculture Room gives viewers a glimpse of the agriculture programs that made waves in the 1970s from rice production under the so called Masagana 99. That period also saw the construction of various dams across the country.

The Diplomacy Room provides a history on Marcos’ foreign and international trade relations primarily with Asian neighbors.

The Nation Building Room describes the rise of infrastructure programs that linked Ilocos to Zamboanga through bridges and road networks. It was during the 1970s that the Maharlika highway (also known as the Pan American highway) and bridges namely the Patapat viaduct in Pagudpud in Ilocos Norte and the San Juanico Bridge in Leyte were built.

The room also features scale models of the bridges and two other significant infrastructures, the Bataan Cross and the Zamboanga airport.

The OFW Room is a tribute to Ilocano overseas workers who are spread across the globe. It mirrors typical Ilocanos who go abroad bringing with them the usual “paoait” (things that are carried as keepsakes for relatives) ranging from blankets, amulets to canned bagoong.

The Culture Room is a preview of the era of cultural renaissance, which former First Lady now Congresswoman Imelda Marcos once upheld.

The Family Room, on the other hand, depicts the late president as a family man and one who drops momentarily his state power when he spends his time with his wife and children. (ANL/CCA-PIA 1 Ilocos Norte)

siguro 'pag mas profitable ang Puregold, malamang SaveMore will redo the building completely to challenge the former and to make room for more tenants it's best if the building is to be renovated in a facade of glass para classy

hay ayaw talagang umalis ang Red Cross, panira sa plano ng SM

Senior citizens undergo skills training in San Nicolas

SAN NICOLAS, Ilocos Norte, Sept 21 (PIA) -- Senior citizens in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte may soon be the town’s suppliers of detergents after attending a livelihood training of the municipal government.

Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer Nympha Pagtama said 24 senior citizens from different barangays attended the two-day “Skills Training on Homemade Products” at the municipal hall on September 10-11.

“This is part of the continuous program of Mayor Alfredo Valdez Jr through the MSWDO to help our senior citizens have an additional source of income by providing them with skills,” Pagtama said.

During the training, participants were taught how to make fabric conditioner, perfume, detergent powder, toilet bowl cleaner, and soap.

Pagtama said all materials used were provided by the local government.

“The participants sold their finished products and the proceeds will serve as part of their initial fund to begin their livelihood. We hope that with our livelihood program, they will be more productive and their living conditions improve,” she said.

The San Nicolas government also offers credit to senior citizens to finance their business. This year, more than P300,000 from the Internal Revenue Allotment went to programs and projects for senior citizens and persons with disabilities of the town.

Other programs for the senior citizens are educational tours, health, socialization and discounts. There are more than 2,000 members of the Federation of Senior Citizens of San Nicolas. (ANL/CPC-PIA 1, Ilocos Norte)
