Cities with Happiest Young Professionals, Miami #19

http://www.forbes.com/sites/jacquely...ofessionals-2/

1. Los Angeles, Calif.
2. San Jose, Calif.
3. Sunnyvale, Calif.
4. Indianapolis, Ind.
5. San Diego, Calif.
6. Irvine, Calif.
7. Atlanta, Ga.
8. Boston, Mass.
9. San Francisco, Calif.
10. San Antonio, Texas
11. Las Vegas, Nev.
12. Seattle, Wash.
13. Irving, Texas
14. Philadelphia, Pa.
15. Orlando, Fla.
16. Pittsburgh, Pa.
17. New York, N.Y.
18. Plano, Texas
19. Miami, Fla.
20. Austin, Texas

They surveyed young professionals from 2011 - 2012 so this is fairly recent. I think this is a promising trend considering most of Downtown/Brickell where young professionals would work wasn't even here 10 years ago.

I think a lot of people are still just not hip to what Miami is like these days. I think they are stuck on what it was like 10-15 years ago.

With a little hard work and dedication, we can be the next Indianapolis.

I would not really take much stock into these Forbes lists since they usually contain some lame criteria which is inconsistant to determine who is happy vs unhappy among other things (especially when you look at the other cities mentioned such as Irving which is nothing more than a overgrown suburb).

Anyways regardless of where it is ranked it is pretty obvious that Miami is still desirable among many young professionals.

That was actually my profile name on SSP, and it is part of the email address that I use the most.

Maybe I'm in a minority here but I don't think that ranking (for what it's worth) is really bad at all!

Look, Miami isn't a city that has a huge corporate presence (at least compared to others of similar size) nor is it particularly known as a high-salary nexus, so to see it on the list despite those hindrances is--I think--pretty impressive. And I would add (although it's purely speculative on my part) that even as recently as 10-15 years ago I doubt you would have found Miami on a list like that at all.

That said, agreed with the earlier post that you really need to take any lists like this (whether positive or negative) with a big grain of salt. In reality, there is no such thing as the "best" or "worst" city--not in any concrete, definitive manner. The "best" city is simply the one that works best for you, lists be damned.

This list was actually done by CareerBliss.com and I agree with spellbound that it really doesn't rank Miami bad at all.

But lists are just lists and I'm sure there are plenty more young professionals doing well in Miami.
