Here's my second entry:

A small house behind the church

It doesn't even get to 500Kb's... xD

Search Sketchup's 3D Warehouse for "Urbanist Experiment - House Behind Church"

Hope you all like it.

looks great, also why only 1 floor, I don't get why it needs to be limited to 1 floor, we doing it like through the ages or what ?_? cause you won't get many 1 floor buildings around an old-town I think.

Hm well since I thought it would grow from a small town, then I figured it would be ok to have everyone build 1 floor at first. However, as the town grows, I figured we could allow for more floors, and, consequently, for another structure to be built on top of the buildings. If you see my model, you can notice that the space on top does not have a slanted roof, and is completely flat... It can easily be added a second story later What im trying to achieve is a certain level of realism. I think its really weird to have 2 or three story buildings sorrounded by empty land in a small town... But then again, what is your opinion on this?

it sounds a good idea, but the way I thought of making Bon Marshéi was that it would be the same age town like the community city, but with your new method, I didn't think it would be making a town from ground up, Bon Marshéi would look so out of place there then.

A suggestion, why not release the cities in "10 year" cycles so that if somebody wants to make a totally new spot, they can get rid of the current buildings with the owners permission, and then build on that. because if not, then we would like have a problem where there are splodges of the city with early 19th century buildings then beside it absolutely massive redesigned buildings with glass and all.

That sounds reasonable ... but I think we should do it by 50 or 100 years, 10 years is going to take too long a time to advance. I agree on having the oportunity to ask owners to cede their grounds to a new building made by a different member.

Oh, and in what year do you think we should begin counting? 1500?

I would say late 18th century. So it would be 1750, right?

Oh man that is awesome!!! It's small yet charming. Also I see you might be able to build over it once we push to two or three stories! Imagine the town full of small buildings like this, and later growing organically over itself.... I think that will create some good lookind density and varied landscape. Again, thanks for your entry!

I will be submitting more of my works (hopefully) this weekend. And remember we're in 1800 :P!!! There's lots of rich architecture appearing throughout the world at this time .

hey CF, sorry to bump this, but we still doing this D: Cause I'd love to continue this idea, the only problem I think is holding it back is the whole timezone idea and the height limitation

Hmmm... I agree. Funnily enough, this is the first time I see your message. I thought all interest for this project had already disappeared! I agree that we should stop limitations on height and stop forcing people to build according historical years. However, do you think the project can be re-born even if so much time without activity has passed?

I think if we create a new thread, start a new with it, also maybe a blank map and we can add on the terrain as people build further away, we should maybe just start with 100x100, have people build on that, once full we should start a 2nd, then 3rd and such, like Pingyao did with Sta Fee.

Sounds good ... so no rivers or water features at first? Or should we just paint them on the map? Remember that the current river feature actually protrudes down from the map.
