Can I tell you something. Sciences developed of Newton and Aristotle were developed in India and China in about 1000 BC. The fact that planets rotate about their axis and revolve around the sun, the center of the galaxy, due to gravity, was said by Indian astronomer Aryabhatta in about 900 BC, and is recorded in a book called Surya Siddhhanta. Things like Algebra, Trigonomery, etc. were developed in India and transferred by the Arabs to the then uncivilized and savage western world, and you people claim to have made those. Surgery was practiced in India at about 500 BC by Sushruta. Search the net if you don't believe me. The Chinese Qin dynasty made the compass in 300 BC, but you say that Ferdinand Magellan made and used it. If the Brits hadn't looted our country like hell, we would still be the richest nation in the world. But we don't complain, but go on. What satisfies me is that countries like China and India are regaining their old glory, and becoming great ance again.

I don't understand how so many of you think westerners are always 'RICH'. and all others are poor. This is a really wrong notion. Yes, if you go by per capita income, the have really high. But who has the highest ? Its Qatar, in Asia. Countries like Singapore, Japan and South Korea, all in the East, have higher incomes than countries like USA, UK etc. Where is the world's costliest home in ? In a country like India. But in Slumdog Millionaire you people are shown an India which is just full of slums and street children(who constitute just 22.8% of the population). Why??? Don't we have skyscrapers and rich people?? China has the 2nd largest number of billionaires and India the 4th. 4 of the top 10 richest are Indians.China is the 2nd largest economy and India is the 3rd largest. So how in the world can we say "west is the richest, all others are poor"???

Because per capita income is a silly, uninformed measuring stick for wealth. Extreme wealth and extreme poverty end up normalizing the mean. Averages never tell an accurate picture of wealth distribution, which is what you want to see when trying to do comparative political economy. Median household income at PPP is what you want to look at.

If Bill Gates walks in to a dive bar in some rundown neighborhood in Seattle with a hundred or so low-income patrons, suddenly the per capita income of everyone in that bar is well over USD 1 million. Same deal with places like Qatar.

Yes, India and China have massive economies and lots of rich people and skyscrapers. But both countries also have levels of poverty that are simply not found in the West. Your average Indian or Chinese citizen is demonstratively poorer than your average Westerner.
