I'd agree with you Jex. Escargot is quite nice, but I never envisaged it, or frogs legs, as being a regular thing for French people lol.

Fresh frog's legs prepared with butter, parsley and garlic in a skillet are delicious. Too many places just deep fry frozen ones. It's a travesty.

Jex, tu as tort. Bien préparé, les escargots c'est délicieux et ça se trouve dans n'importe quelle grande surface.

Having said that, the snails stuff is such a cliché...Although I'm french, I've never eaten a single snail in my whole life, & I don't remember my friends saying they had tried that either.

I'm not saying it's untrue as there are some french people eating snails, but they represent a small percentage of the population. You only eat this stuff on special occasions in 'posh' restaurants, in other terms, that's really rare.

I don't think I'll ever eat snails, it just doesn't appeal to me, but I may try frog legs someday.
LOL, another anglo-french myth busted.

If anyone honestly believes that the French eat frogs legs and snails all day long, then that is really quite ignorant of them.

One thing that I've found throughout my travels is that many of the "exotic delicacies" that you read about are actually things that the locals do not eat on a day to day basis at all.

The one French "myth" which is actually completely true is the baguette thing. There are bakeries everywhere, selling the most amazing fresh baguettes, and they seem to all be selling them non-stop to a steady stream of customers. I suppose "bread" doesn't make an exotic selling point for some travel writers though

Hi all, I just noticed that the links on this page were broken as they were linking to my old blog. If you wanted to check out the extra photos, I've fixed the links :-)
