![]() IM Pei is just so money! I think back to the '80s and the buildings that most inspired me were the CenTrust Tower above, the Humana Building in Louisville by Michael Graves, the State of Illinois Center and One Liberty Center by Helmut Jahn, 333 Wacker by KPF, and Phillip Johnson's I PPG Place. These are the greats, these are the towers that will stand forever.

After 25 years, it's still many people's favorite building in Miami. What I think it does now is totally out of this world with the way the entire building does it in so many different color schemes because the building has six different surfaces instead of four.

The Charlotte skyline reminds me of Buckhead in Atlanta. These two skylines are very similar in height and style.

I just did a retrospective of some of my best work and decided to bump up this thread with what I haven't posted here. i wasn't a photographer when the thread was started. Now since it's been a while since anyone has posted here, let's see what other great photos have been taken since.

Oddly enough Miami's pretty skyline is more attractive during the day than at night for me. The absence of signature crowns or marquees, save for one or two, limits the "oohs and aahs" of the scene. You can tell it's dense and feel the urban flavor of the city, but as a lightshow it's relatively non-descript and several buildings seem virtually lost. But, I like it that way, to be honest. Miami's appeal is in the beach scene and night life, not a display of corporate energy.
Nice pics, btw. Thanks for sharing.

One thing I like is that you don't have many buildings where the crown or lighting elements seem forced. Atlanta has a few where the lighted elements seem detached from the form and function of the structure, even if they do add some splash to the skyline. Some of the buildings in Miami could do that but refrain, which is refreshing.

I've never really been impressed with the Miami skyline, but these pictures really change my opinion. I like the "LA" night skyline feel of them. They aren't trying to be more than they are and you can really sense the clustered, overpowering fell of them in these photos. I dig it.

^Nice picture. I think natural features of an area's landscape, like water and mountains, does add an extra element of intrigue and attractiveness to a city's skyline.

^ Well it's worked for me. Just being on this forum has changed my perspective of Miami and made me believe it is very much a "big city".

Downtown Miami is getting even bigger with what's under construction now, with what is scheduled to start later this year, and with what is scheduled to start construction in 2014 and 2015. We'll see what the nigth skyline looks like by the end of thes decade.

On the other hand, when I first moved to Atlanta I always loved driving into the city at night for that reason. |
