This is what's being built just south of international mall. 350 units of apartments, rising 5 stories. A small 6 story crane was erected yesterday for this project. This framework group is also one of the groups that is supposed to be part of the new tower by Straz.
Varela is going on the corner or Lois and Spruce, so this must actually be another project.

Must be the Legacy Westshore Apartments by Mill Creek Residential Trust that USF802 is talking about. If what he saw was just north of Jefferson.

Two is better than one!

Land keeps filling up in Westshore like it is and pretty soon, new projects will have to start going vertical there. Either that, or we'll start seeing single family lots consolidated, and 2 story apartments and townhouse developments getting bought up and smashed down.

For anyone interested here is the link for the project just south of international mall, near Boizao restaurant. http://www.choosewestshore.com/files...lti-Family.pdf

The ~7 story crane is now up. Unfortunately there doesn't look like there is going to be ground floor retail.

At least it looks pretty decent. Nice to have the infilll on that lot, it should add some street interaction for the restaurants and mall.

Just wanted to clarify...which project is going on next to the interstate in Westshore? North of Embassy is a group of trailers and north of that is equipment that looks like it's about to do a big dig. Lois exit.

North of the Embassy Suites? At the Lois Exit? Something is not right about these directions...the Lois exit is east of the Embassy Suites and North of the ES is just the interstate and then current mid/low rise buildings.

ok I had to map it. It's on the south side of the interstate. If you are going down 275 heading toward Embassy Suites and WS mall it's on the left side. I forgot about the curve in 275.

Definitely for the expansion. Major work is resuming this month on I-275 (as I mentioned in the I-275 Hillsborough thread).

not bad. I'd be fine with westshore being mid-rise buidlings if it gets greater density and a less suburban feel. At least this isn't 2-3 story "garden apartments" that you find all over Tampa.

Should have at least had some retail space to serve the residents. 3-5k sqft fronting Spruce would have been just fine.

Speaking of "garden apartments"....

Officials at Without Walls International Church have a pending sales contract with developers who plan to build apartments, restaurants and shops on the church's property.

The beleaguered ministry has struggled in recent years with its finances, including a $12.5 million mortgage and a dwindling membership.

The proposed 557 apartments, if approved, would be built in two phases. The first construction of Grady Avenue Apartments would be completed in winter of this year; the second in winter 2014.

The prospective buyer is West Palm Beach-based The Richman Group of Florida. The company has filed an application to rezone the property. A public hearing is scheduled for April 11.

Two four-story apartment buildings would have parking garages, shared courtyards, a swimming pool and a club house, according to city records filed with Tampa's growth management department.

About 2.5 acres of church property fronting Columbus Drive would be developed with restaurants and shops.

Pastor Randy White could not be reached for comment. In July, he told a reporter that church officials planned to sell the administrative building for about $4.4 million, with a closing anticipated within 60 days.

A sign is posted in front of the church at 3860 E. Columbus Dr. announcing a pre-demolition public auction for the administrative building at 10 a.m. Jan. 15.

The Richman Group has developed several East Tampa apartment complexes in recent years, including Meridian Pointe, Brandywine and Grande Oaks, which lease apartments based on a renters' income and a sliding fee scale.

The apartments planned for the Without Walls' property would be upscale and market rate, said Michael Horner, who represents the parties involved at April's public hearing.

Interesting news.

Glad to see development in general increase, but I'm bummed not to see a bit denser development with a better mix of uses going on this site. No phase of the project designated for a hotel or office space is surprising.

At least it's not another car dealership.

the commercial fronting Columbus will fit in beautifully with all the empty space at the Metwest development.

Unfortunate news for the church. Nice for development. If only these projects served to make the area more walkable and not just add density, Westshore could really be the envy of other cities in the state.
