maybe SM can also add a few drainage lines sa ilahang parking area nga mo feed ra sad sa main yellow lines

just a thought though..

Pila may elevation difference anang inlet point diha sa Juan Luna Avenue corner A Soriano Anenue from the mean sea level at the outlets bay? Bisan ug dagko kaayo nang mga box culverts kon gamay ra ug elevation, hinay lang gihapon ang drainage kay gravity ra baya ang mo-drive sa tubig!

Metro Cebu Drainage Master Plan pushed in RDC meeting
http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx...CategoryId=107

CEBU, Philippines - With flood being the common problem for local government units in Metro Cebu, Mayor Michael Rama is one of those who pushed for the inclusion of the “Metro Cebu Drainage Master Plan” in the Department of Public Works and Highways 7 priority projects.

The inclusion was tackled in the recent Regional Development Council 7 full council meeting held in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.

Rama, who chairs the RDC, said the proposal “should not be set aside” considering that flood is one of the problems faced by the local government units, including Cebu City, within the metro.

He pointed out that in Cebu City alone, the lack of proper drainage system remains a glaring issue.

Recently, the city’s Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) admitted that flood will continue to be the people’s concern during heavy rains, as the executive department is financially handicapped that it could not as yet build better drainage systems.

Rama said the problem can only be resolved if the P2.4 billion drainage master plan will be implemented.

The council has, however, released P100 million instead of the purported fund requirement to complete the five-year project.

not sure kung pilay difference sa elevation pero murag gamay ra.. pero i guess there are ways to introduce a slope along the culvert length such that it will create enough lateral action to move the water..

i guess the main driving point of my idea is mas daghan ang outlet sa tubig aron mas daling mo drain dihang dapita

its just a idea though.

Plausible.

But if the MSL is always high, you are introducing more entry points for seawater to back up the drains!

unsa may maayo ug usbon nang parking lot sa sm instead of pure aspalto or cemento mogamit na sila ug brick nga maka tuhop ang tubig sa yuta instead of tanang nga modagan pa adto sa drainage. kay kon gamay lang uwan unta dili unta magbaha dayon.

not only for parking lots but also to sidewalks and any open paved spaces. at least it could reduce the volume of water going through the drainage.

Let's do a quick math:

SM City Cebu total lot/s area = 11.8 hectares = 118,000 square meters
Assuming a heavy downpour of about 50mm per hour:
Total volume of rainfall in SM area alone = 118,000 sq. meters X 0.05 meters(or 50mm) = 5,900 cubic meters of rain water per hour!
Ug runoff water na siya tanan (no ground absorption), you need 9 pumps rated at 3,000 GPM!

Purdoy ang mall management ug mag butang ug pumping station. I guess @MatudNilaBaby's suggestion is worth looking at. Also, we don't know how the site development was done when SM City was constructed, so we will never know how much soil infiltration can help minimizing the runoff during rains.

RDC revives, approves proposal to build V. Rama-Gorordo road
-A A +A

By Elias O. Baquero and Princess Dawn H. Felicitas

Friday, December 14, 2012

AFTER 12 years, the Regional Development Council (RDC) 7 revived the road project that will connect V. Rama Ave. in Barangay Guadalupe and Gorordo Ave. in Barangay Lahug to reduce traffic in uptown Cebu City.

In a full council meeting at the City Sports Club yesterday morning, the RDC presided by Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama voted unanimously in favor of the proposal to open a road parallel to N. Escario St.

It will start from the Guadalupe Barangay Hall and cut through Gervacio Quejada St. in Guadalupe, Mahogany St. in Barangay Capitol Site and will end near the University of the Philippines Cebu campus in Lahug.

“These roads were supposed to have been interlinked before but were cut by construction of houses. When the project was first approved, the estimated cost was P400 million. I don’t know how much will it cost at present,” said private sector representative Valeriano Avila, who proposed to revive the project.

During the meeting, RDC 7 asked the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to prioritize the project in its investment program.

They also asked DPWH to prepare and conduct a feasibility study on the proposed project to determine its cost, among others.

Bike lanes sought

4
-A A +A By Princess Dawn H. Felicitas

Monday, January 14, 2013
SO THE project will soon be implemented, the Cebu City Council is asking for technical and financial assistance for a study that will find out if it’s a good idea to have bike lanes.
The council is also asking the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to factor in the bicycle lanes in the engineering design of its future road widening or road improvement projects.
It addressed its first request to the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC), for help in setting up bike lanes from Plaza Independencia to North Reclamation Area, Juan Luna Ave., Busay and Ayala Heights.
In their regular session last week, the council passed Councilor Nida Cabrera’s resolution for the legislative body’s requests to DOTC and DPWH.
“The establishment of pilot bike lanes in the city will enable the City Government to fulfill its mandate to green the city and ensure sustainable development similar to other cities in the country,” said the resolution.
Other places in the country that have designated bike lanes include Marikina, Muntinlupa, Manila and Pasig, Cabrera said.
Particularly in seeking grants, Cabrera said the City is willing to work with the DOTC and international funding institutions for a feasibility study.
These include the World Bank which, Cabrera said, has created funding programs to assist cities in making bicycle lanes.

Correct. Kinsa kaha'y gahunghong ana diha? Ouano Avenue has been re-graded since last year, the original aphalt removed and the inner lanes paved / laid already, (albeit lower than the old road grade) the outer lanes are not done yet.

It has always been the story with government projects, those who do the planning are those who are not well-versed with the details!
