‘Snapping flight link will hamper Odisha tourism’

Bhubaneswar, Nov 4:

Quote:
Protesting the sudden withdrawal of Air India flights linking Bhubaneswar with Kolkata and Chennai, the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Odisha (HRAO) on Sunday said it would not only hamper tourism but also trade and industry in the State.

“We want immediate restoration of the two Air India flights connecting Bhubaneswar with Kolkata and Chennai. The decision to withdraw the flights has been taken just before the start of the tourist season,” HRAO Chairman J. K. Mohanty told reporters here.

He said withdrawal of the flights would also hit trade, commerce and industry in the State. Mohanty said a memorandum has been sent to Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh seeking restoration of the urgently.

“I have also requested him to take immediate steps to restore the flights from Bhubaneswar to Bangalore, Raipur and Varanasi which had been withdrawn earlier,” he said.

Stating that a large number of conferences have been booked in various hotels between November and January, Mohanty said all these events in Odisha would be badly hit as delegates from Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata who are supposed to arrive here by Air India flights would face problems.

Dismissing pleas that withdrawal of flights was a business decision, he said this was incorrect as flights connecting Bhubaneswar are operating at full capacity as the number of corporate and business travellers to Odisha has largely increased due to big investment in various sectors.
Looks like next wave of sinking AI favoring spicy pvt. airlines has started.

Looks like Air India is adding more domestic routes to Chennai Sector.

Lookout the DGCA winter schedule for AI domestic services.
New Additions have been made and slowly they are put into service.

MAA-PNQ Pune is one of those but the schedule and operating days vary though.AI 521
MAA-BLR Services had also been boosted with addition of AI 520 making it 2 daily from 1 daily via COK(AI509).
(though AI 520 is said to be to COK from MAA in the schedule but it is actually to BLR direct w/o stopover)

Other New additions that are yet to come would be,
AI 802 Delhi(daily)
AI 438 Delhi(13457)
AI 545 Hyderabad(daily)
AI 674 Mumbai(daily) - this operates once a week at present
AI 513 Trivandrum(daily)(there's already 1 international service to Sharjah via TRV in the evening)

But I'm not sure why AI cancelled BBI flights when there's only service reductions mentioned in the schedule. And yes MAA-BBI flights do have a very good load factor.

Also AIE has strengthened operations from MAA.
New additions include
MAA-TRV.(1 weekly)
MAA-CMB(daily from 3 weekly)
MAA-KUL(5 weekly from 4 weekly)
MAA-BOM(daily from 2 weekly)

One more good news AI boosts MAA-SIN capacity from A320 to A330
2 daily services from 2nd Dec 2012.
BOM-SIN is also served by A330
DEL-SIN will resume 777-200
But Dreamliner services to MAA is not continued thereafter in the present run 788 routes except DEL-FRA.
DEL-DXB upgraded from 1 daily dreamliner to 2 daily(A321 and A320)

I hope similar additions to compensate AI430 dreamliner capacity will be made because its going to be replaced by A319.

It is just because we all care about these projects that we are vocal. And AAI hasn't exactly been the paragon of efficiency here, and deserves much of the opprobrium directed toward it.

In this case, a mistaken piece of reporting, combined with AAI's track record ignited my (speaking for myself) impatience. After all, all of us having waiting forever to see this airport work completed, and it still hasn't. For forgive me for complaining (or ranting) about it, or having a short fuse regarding this project.

CoolMukund, thanks for pointing out the ground reality, I am now feeling better that things are better than reported. I am NOT complaining about the reporter who, after all, was just reporting things .
I just felt the amount of ranting was bizarrely high for this particular thread. Rest assured my barb was not directed at you (infact I realized that you have ranted previously only after seeing this post of yours). Nothing personal

A real good news for chennai.
With the induction of B787 into long distance routes like frankfurt and dubai, lots of rejig is happening. The earlier aircraft that operated in those routes ( B777) are moved to other routes. The A330 in MAA-SIN route might also be a result of this rejig.

In a similar vein, I wish soon they start a MAA to USA direct flights using B777.
If not direct, atleast a onestop will be of great benefit for chennai passengers.

Maldivian to start new flights

Quote:
Maldivian, the national airlines of the island nation, would start flying from Chennai and Mumbai this month and from Delhi next year, providing direct connectivity to Male for passengers, primarily tourists and honeymooners.

While the Chennai-Male flight would be launched on November 15, the service from Mumbai would start the next day, the airline Chairman Bandhu Ibrahim Saleem said here today.

Operations to and from Delhi would begin from April or May next year after the airline, which currently has one Airbus A-320 and a few Bombardier Dash-8s, gets its second A- 320, he said.

"Maldivian will receive its second A-320 in March or April next year. This aircraft will be used to operate flights to Delhi," Saleem said, adding the services on Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai sectors would be three each per week.

The airline would get its third A-320 in October, 2013 when "we will look to increase the frequency of flights to the cities where the airline operates," he said, adding it would help in substantial improvement in the carriage of Indian travellers to the Maldives.

Maldivian already operates two Dash-8 flights a day between Thiruvananthapuram and Male, primarily carrying Indian contract labour and patients.

The start of the new flights would also provide an opportunity for transporting goods by air between India and the Maldives, with the A-320 carrying 3-4 tonnes of cargo on each flight.

Seems that they're strengthening the Chennai hub .Looking forward to Europe/US flights(atleast via BOM). I think they can start Chennai -Paris direct flight or Chennai-Mumbai-Paris flight.

U Airlines reaches for the sky

http://www.bangkokpost.com/business/...es-for-the-sky

U Airlines' plan calls for 18 jets _ A320s, A330s and B767-300s plus an A380, all of them leased _ by next year.

The airline plans to offer scheduled domestic service from Bangkok to Chiang Mai and Phuket next month before spreading its coverage to Hat Yai, Krabi, Narathiwat and Roi Et.

Also on its radar screen are flights to 10 Asian countries _ South Korea (Inchon, Muan, Pusan and Daegu), Japan (Hiroshima), India (Chennai and Gaya), Mongolia, China (Nanjing, Chongqing, Shanghai, Ningbo, Chengdu and Yencheng). Indonesia (Jakarta), Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur), Cambodia, the UAE (Dubai) and Turkey (Istanbul).

The airline did not provide timetables for the launch of these services.

Following flight routes must be considered for direct flight from Chennai..

Chennai - Paris.
Now we have to take AF / Srilankan / Emirates flight to go to Paris which are via Delhi/Mumbai/Bng - AF & Colomobo - Srilankan & Dubai - Emirates.

Also Emirates is always full from Chennai to Paris, and from Mumbai emirates is half empty. I could get a seat in emirates from Mumbai for next week travel but not from Chennai.

Chenna - Beijing also.

Why 6.. Why not 7?? This is the only direct flight. AI doesnt know anything beyond BOM n DEL for connectivity to west. Its the gulf carriers which take a huge profit. We are just losing our own money to foreign carriers. Atleast Jet or spicejet can start some direct service

I would request Our CM to act fast to speed up such projects. She need not worry about who would get the credit, her jingjhas would ensure that all this projects were brain child of her.
