When we see places like this in Brazil, we say "Puta que pariu!". Where is it, by the way? Riviera di Levante? Last edited by Kriativus; July 16th, 2012 at 04:52 AM. |

Sorry, I missed this question! This and other works in Hampton Court are by Italian artist Antonio Verrio. More information on him in the Historic Royal Palaces website, the independent non-for-protif organization that also manages the Tower of London and Kensington Palace.

These are indeed palaces, not castles! I find Neuschwanstein and Hohenzollern a little tacky, i'm not a fan of the revival style and of XIX century reconstructions, but they are very iconographic, i must say. I still prefer the older castles and Burgs of Germany! |

Italy has such an embarrassment of riches when it comes to architecture that it's starting to get ridiculous. Amazing-looking country.

Here are some castles, palaces and fortified towns from Croatia.

The name Nehaj comes from the Croatian term Ne hajati, which means Don't care. ![]() Trsatska Gradina, Rijeka Trsatska Gradina is a castle in Trsat, part of the city of Rijeka, Croatia. It is thought that the castle lies at the exact spot of an ancient Illyrian and Roman fortress. The Croatian noble Vuk Krsto Frankopan is buried in one of the churches. The Trsat castle was completely reconstructed and renovated in the 19th century when the mausoleum of the military commander Laval Nugent was built in its interior. The courtyard of the castle has now been turned into a restaurant and many tourists visit the place during the summer months. ![]() ![]() Adria Palace (Palača Jadran), Rijeka This grand old dame occupying prime position on the waterfront is the headquarters of Jadrolinija. The palace’s exterior is rich in statuary – look out for the figures of a ship’s captain, helmsman, chief engineer and pilot from the dockside, while from Jadranski trg you can see female figures representing Africa, Asia, Europe and India. ![]() Klis Fortress The Klis Fortress is a medieval fortress situated above a village bearing the same name, near the city of Split, in central Dalmatia, Croatia. From its origin as a small stronghold built by the ancient Illyrian tribe Dalmatae, becoming a royal castle that was the seat of many Croatian kings. ![]() Dubrovnik The Walls of Dubrovnik are a series of defensive stone walls that have surrounded and protected the citizens of the afterward proclaimed maritime city-state of Dubrovnik situated in southern Croatia. In 1979, the old city of Dubrovnik, which includes a substantial portion of the old walls of Dubrovnik, joined the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. ![]() ![]() ![]()
