Chicago next city to get bike sharing

The proposals for a 3,000 bike/300 kiosk bike sharing system were due to the City of Chicago yesterday, Tuesday, October 25, 2011.

Transportation commissioner Gabe Klein's goal is to beat New York City to the launch (or at least beat them to 3,000 bikes).

Do you have decent bikepaths/lanes in downtown Chicago ? I have seen this bikesharing in Copenhagen but I didn't dare to use it. Didn't know how to do it either.

They do have a fairly extensive network of bike lanes with more on the way.

What's the point of these neat web 2.0 graphs that don't tell you anything and what they tell you is useless or wrong (density, Huangzhou, Paris, London)

I hear you, although neat they're not ... use of statistics has been pretentious for ages now ... at first glance, I was presuming the densities reflect how often/likely a prospective renter encounter a bike dock

Just like to enquiry anyone from any country is using any accident records as one of the criteria for guidelines in pedestrian crossing.

They have bike sharing in Stockholm, too with the CityBike system. It costs 300sek ($45 USD) a year with 100 bike spots in the city. You can take a bike for 3 hours before having to return it.

Paris also has the VELIB bikesharing system, but you need 150 EUR collateral. It is designed for short 30 min rides, but it gets very expensive if you use the bike all day for sightseeing.

I did not dare to try it.

about Chicago: is not this city a little too widespread for biking ?

The city is rapidly expanding its bike lanes with dozens of KM of both protected and buffered bike lanes throughout the city. Next year they're creating a two-way protected bike lane down the heart of the loop equipped with bike traffic signals, etc.

I think more and more people like to bike, especially in Chicago.
