Besides the usual NY favorites I really like the building at one Grand central place over on 42nd. I think it's called the Lincoln Building? It's an unsung hero. Just gorgeous.

That's a beaut that unfortunately just gets lost in Midtown. Surprised so few people, if any, have mentioned the old GE Building, aka 570 Lexington Ave. It has really similar massing to 20 Exchange Place, but arguably the best crown in the city, besides the Chrysler Building, and far far superior details in my opinion than 20 Exchange Place. 570 Lex just oozes art deco at every turn. I don't want to turn this thread into a thread just on this building, but it is a just stunning building, and even the old subway stop at the foot of the building largely remains and is indicative of the whole building. Easily top 10 for me.

I'll think about a top ten list, and post later. Can we get people posting with some photos in here?

I went back and added photos to my post. 570 Lexington truly is a gem of the highest order.

Just getting around to this. This is my new top 10, only completed buildings. And I know I'm sort of breaking the rules by including one non skyscraper, but whatever. Sue me.

Also, sort of off topic, but someone here posted The Potter Building as a top 10 NY skyscraper, and I thought that maybe there would be some merit in creating a thread here in the New York subsection dedicated to non high rise NY architecture, if people were interested in that. So would people be interested in that or not? Anyways off to my top ten, with pictures!

1. Chrysler. Perfect.

2. Woolworth, The Cathedral of Commerce.

3. Empire State Building, The King.

4. American Radiator Building. If it were in almost any other city in the world, it would be an icon. One of the few buildings in NY I always stop and look at.

5. 570 Lexington Avenue. Like the American Radiator Building, this monument to New York's 1916 zoning law, with its stunning art deco details gets lost in the mayhem of Midtown. One of my favorite buildings anywhere, and another one of the few buildings in NY I always make time to stop and admire.

6. 8 Spurce St. An 870 foot sculpture.

7. Hearst Tower. 78 years in the making, Hearst finally got their 8th Avenue Headquarters. The contrast of the landmarked base built with a cast stone facade, and a stainless steel diagrid is incredible. I absolutely love this building. I can hardly believe it's all the way down at seven.

8 & 9. 20 Exchange Place and 40 Wall Street. I don't know why, but I've always preferred these over 70 Pine Street, (American International Building). 20 Exchange's gargoyles are one of my favorite architectural details anywhere in the city. They feel so gotham. 40 Wall is far less interesting at street level, but I can never get enough of that crown.

Bonus. 20 Exchange gargoyles.

10. Rockefeller Center. Just an awesome enormous slab of art deco.
