#PROJECT: AL BERWAZ TOWER AKA DUBAI FRAME, 150M (ZABEEL PARK)

‘Dubai Frame’ to take shape by 2013 end

(Staff Reporter) / 6 July 2012

Visitors and residents will be able to watch Dubai’s iconic buildings and skyscrapers from atop a 150-metre-high glass bridge by the end of 2013 with the government approving the construction of a much-awaited project on Thursday.

His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has directed to implement the Al Berwaz Tower project ‘Dubai Landmark’ at Zabeel Park, Wam reported.

There were better designs than this...but atleast it will have an observation deck.

Love the design. It's simple, geometrical, understated and modern. Just what is needed to show off Dubai's skyline to those who board it and a subtle, unobtrusive contribution itself to the skyline. Perfect.

Imagine the photos that photographers will take using the frame as a literal frame to frame the city's skyline.

Why is this image shown with the Al Berwaz Tower project it does not appear to be related to the Zabeel Park project. It looks more related to the redevelopment of Port Rashid.

Anyone any other ideas?

I like it alot really relates to Photography and preservation of history and moments through pictures. and its simpleness is a very cool contrast to all of the crazy and complicated buildings

And Dubai is a very photogenic city.

and the view towards the Dubai skyline will be even better than it is from The Top of The Raffles hotel. wich is already a very nice view point towards the skyline.

Some countries like huge flagpoles, the record is currently at 165m and this is already a big engineering challenge. But here it seems that people can go up, means elevators, means escape stairways, means much bigger vertical section and more windloads etc. And look at the dimensions, the bridge is supposed to be 150m high so this horizontal part might be 75m long. I can't think of any material that allows an open span of 75m and people to walk on top at the same time...

The gateway arch is 192m and bent and that has observation deck and trams going up so i think this can be pulled through also the gateway arch leans in on itself tho. But i think they can find a way to support this span also.

and the Skywalk has almost already been made before. the one between the Petronas towers is 58 meters long. that one has supports from beneath because it isent put on top of the structure like this one will be so this should be feasible without supports.

and on the Elevetor and stairs issue they can choose to have dual normal elevator on one side and dual emergency stairs at the other. or a mix

They have an even longer one already in Dubai....

'Skywalk Bridge is the longest foot bridge between two buildings in the world'

Union Properties PJSC announced that it's Skywalk Bridge, the longest foot bridge between two buildings in the world, will be lifted in to place between the two Marriott Executive Apartments (MEA), situated by the Clock Tower roundabout in Deira, Dubai tomorrow 17th February 2003 at 8:00am.

Measuring 73 meters in length, not only is the Skywalk Bridge the longest recorded between two buildings, it outstrips current record holder the Petronas Towers bridge in Kuala Lumpur by some 19 meters and the Tower Bridge in London by 12 meters. If you were to stand the bridge up next to the MEA buildings it would be 1 meter higher than the buildings themselves.

Dubai landmark still in design stage

http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/go...tage-1.1103892

Dubai: Visitors atop the proposed Dh120 million ‘Dubai Frame’ will be able to have a bird’s eye view of both old and new Dubai.

The Al Berwaz Tower project ‘Dubai Landmark’ at Zabeel Park was given the go-ahead last July by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Dubai Frame will stand 150 metres high with a mass of approximately 25,850 tonnes and expects to attract about two million visitors and tourists.

A sketch artist’s impression of the landmark from indoors, which was presented late last month to Dubai Municipality, shows that the ground floor will feature a number of poster-sized photographs that depict the emirate’s development over the past 40 years, in addition to cultural activities and exhibitions that aim to educate visitors about the country’s history.

Article continues below

“The project is still in the design phase and we are waiting for final approval. We expect the contract to be awarded in the next two months so that construction can start in the beginning of 2013,” said Moawya Abdul Rahman, head of the structural engineering unit at Dubai Municipality’s building department.

Panoramic views

The project will have an elevator that will be located inside the cladding in order to not obstruct visitors’ views. It will take visitors upto the sky bridge and its observation deck.

“As you go up, you will have a clear view of the city. Once on top of the 100-metre-long sky bridge, you can walk from one side to another, either on a wooden-like floor or, if you are more daring, on glass,” said Abdul Rahman, who is also head of the project’s technical team.

The project is expected to take approximately one year to complete. Municipality officials have confirmed that work on the foundation has already begun.

The design was initially proposed in 2009 by Fernando Donis of the Netherlands when he won a government-initiated competition for a new architectural landmark in Dubai.

This is under construction. The project boards are up and the piling is underway. The location is on the corner of the Zabeel Park on the Karama side, next to that 4 dome thingy
