Memphis, TN in 1956-1959
A few years ago I wrote a novel of a teen girl becaming a star in Memphis in the period of 1956-1959 (in 1959 she dies). I never published that novel and I don't have the English version of it (I wrote it in Romanian).
Why I did open this topic? Because I wrote that novel without ever putting my feet on Memphis soil (in fact, I never traveled outside Romania). So, I'm curios to find out more thing about the city in which the action of my novel took place. 1) What neiberghoods where inhibated by Whites (Caucasian) and what neiberghoods wheee inhibated by Blacks (African-Americans), and what by other races? 2) Young white fellows who becamed listeners of Rythm and Blues and Rock'n'Roll where clients of Black bars and dance halls? If so, the races mixed or had separate places?; 3) What tv station had color broadcasting in Mephis area during that period of time? There where any F.M. (U.S.W.) radio station in Memphis back then? 4) Does any one haves a public transportation map from back then?; 5) There where any techonoligal high-schools in Memphis back then?; 6) Does any one have pictures with the city from that period of time?; 7) In 1959 there was any direct train between Memphis and Los Angeles (L.A.)?

Orange Mound is one of the oldest & most historically significant African American neighborhoods in Memphis. Then of course Beale Street was where a lot of entertainment & business took place.
