Part of BIR Road in QC closed as tension rises over demolition
October 16, 2012 8:39am

A portion of the BIR Road in Quezon City was closed to traffic early Tuesday as tension rose in the demolition of houses in a residential area in Quezon City.

Residents barricaded their homes in Barangay Central to stop the demolition team from dismantling their homes, radio dzBB's Allan Gatus reported.

Members of militant groups opposing the demolition were also seen in the area, the same radio report said.

But the demolition team, backed up by police personnel and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams, managed to start demolishing some of the houses.

A fire truck was also deployed to the area in case the confrontation between the residents and the demolition team turns violent.

The report said police had taken into custody at least one person who allegedly tried to confront the demolition team.

But the police also tried to convince residents not to get in the way of the demolition team.

Does anyone know if the North Triangle area is far enough from NAIA that a mega-super-dupar tall can be built there?

Japanese to build world’s 2nd highest tower in QC

JAPAN’s Mitsubishi Electric Corp. is said to be interested in buying Manila Seedling Bank Foundation Inc.’s seven-hectare property on Edsa and Quezon Avenue in Quezon City for P100,000 a square meter to put up the second tallest tower in the world.

City administrator Victor Endriga says Mitsubishi’s representatives met with him and Mayor Herbert Bautista to discuss their plan to build the tower that will house telecommunications companies, radio and television networks , commercial establishments and restaurants.

“If things get going, the tower offer will be the world’s second tallest next to Tokyo’s [634-meter] Sky Tree,” Endriga told the Manila Standard.

He said Mitsubishi showed Bautista a blueprint of its plan to transform the Manila Seedling Bank property into an eco-tourism hub under a public-private partnership.

“The mayor was overwhelmed,” Endriga said. Apart from theP7 billion in projected income from the sale of Manila Seedling Bank, Endriga said, the city was anticipating a bigger business tax collection once the telecommunications tower started operations.

“We will not spend a single centavo,” he said.

City officials were surprised when the Mitsubishi executives arranged an appointment with them, Endriga said.

“It came to their knowledge that the nursery and seedling bank was auctioned off to the city in 2010 and on July 6, 2011,” he said.

“Manila Seedling owed the city government P42 million in real-property taxes,” he said.

“We believe it does not have the money to pay us until July 6.” Rio N. Araja

Baka mahina lang comprehension ko, so it will be the world's second tallest next to Tokyo's Sky Tree? But Tokyo Sky Tree is the world's second today right? So once this proposed project will be completed, then it will be the third not the second, ayt? Also, matagal na news na to dba (nung summer)...now October na, wala pa ring update....

How long? in 3 days will be fast enough..
the question is WHAT...what will it take!

It's been YEARS and they only managed to clear 5 meters distance from the side of EDSA, that's mainly for road widening not exactly relocating just yet, remember it's elections year again so i'd day maybe in 2015 on wards pa yan..

You see the informal settlements clearing each week.

But I will also agree that maybe the property will be cleared after elections pa. Let's just hope that ALI has hired stronger and more patient lobbyists.

Malaki nga nalinis sa EDSA side ng IS colony. Haven't seen any digging yet on the property beside the Trinoma open parking.
