I see a few of us from the Newcastle Forum have now posted here on this thread. However, there will be a fair few of our posters (I would imagine) who still haven't been over here for a look yet!

To help them, if anyone from this forum has a 'selection' of photos of Atlanta they could post onto the Twin Cities thread, over on the Newcastle Forum, that would be very welcome.

In that way we could be introduced to the "key locations" of Atlanta, in a way we would never be able to achieve ourselves just by searching through the various (excellent) photos threads here.

Local knowledge always helps.

Thanks guys, I have enjoyed popping over here to this forum from time to time, but now I think that (on our own Twin Cities Thread on the Newcastle Forum) we are probably just about ready to move on to talking about the second of our eight Twin Cities - Bergen, Norway . . .

From the above, it can be seen that we are Officially TWINNED with seven Towns/Cities around the world, and have a 'Friendship Agreement' with one other . . .

1 - Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
2 - Bergen, Norway.
3 - Gelsenkirchen, Germany.
4 - Grongingen, Holland.
5 - Haifa, Israel.
6 - Nancy, France.
7 - Newcastle, Australia.
8 - Little Rock, Arkansa, USA (Friendship Agreement).

Maybe Newcastle can show the good mayor how to pass a regional transit tax!

I wrote a 'goodbye note' (to the 'Southeast Forum', from the 'Newcastle Metro Area Forum') and posted it on here, last November.

Then, your Mayor Kasim Reed turned up in Newcastle, so I said 'hello' again, to tell you about that unexpected visit!

Now, this time we are off-and-away for sure.

I have enjoyed popping over here to this forum from time to time, but now I think that (on our own Twin Cities Thread on the Newcastle Forum) we are probably just about ready (this time!!) to move on to talking about the second of our eight Twin Cities - Bergen, Norway . . .

Hmmm, Bergen Norway? Seattle is also a sister city to Bergen Norway. Does that make Seattle and Newcastle sisters in law?

Personally I feel like Portland would have been a better twin for Newcastle. There are so many similarities between Portland and Newcastle upon Tyne!

1978 article concerning MARTA, the Atlanta Georgia equivalent to the Metro

Came across part of an Evening Chronicle dated Wednesday 28 June 1978 lining the bottom of a drawer so made scanned copies of this article by Peter Morris headed " Meet Marta - Metro's big sister" (images hosted on Photobucket) - makes interesting read comparing the two projects both under construction at that time

Wonder if they are under a major upgrade & refurbishment as the Tyne & Wear system is at present - view thread on http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...02998&page=147

Also posted to the "Tyne & Wear Metro" thread

KEN (North East England - Newcastle Metro area forum)

^
Sadly MARTA is mired in crappy state politics and can't get the funds to properly upgrade and expand.
