May tanong ako: kailan ba ibubuo ang SLEX dyan sa Bicol? It's been quite a while since I heard of that project, pero kailan ba yan itatayo?

Hayayay... Baka may pinagpeperahan nanaman.

No wonder. Laging malubak doon. And also, may portion buong kalsada mismo ang sira.

Bicol Region: Town Planning

Note: this thread is loosely based on my Building Your Ultimate City series, and this topic is specific to the Bicol Region. More information about the series can be viewed here. There is also a companion thread to this topic, focusing on the region's largest cities, including Daet, Naga, Legaspi, Sorsogon, Masbate, and Virac Cities: click here. If you would like to suggest this thread tailored to your province or region, please contact me directly via PM and I will create one specifically for you.

The Bicol Region is indeed one of the fastest-growing tourist markets in the Philippines, thanks to recent filmings of the world-famous Survivor series, shown in over a dozen countries, with the latest being the original, United States version in Caramoan, Camarines Sur, as well as spectacular views of Mount Mayon and Mount Bulusan, and the ever-popular butanding whales in Donsol, Sorsogon. With the growth of mass-tourism in the province, it is rudimentary for me to discuss the future of Bicol's towns -- which I call my second home after Manila because this is where my parents originally came from -- and I would really like to see a wonderful future for this great province where economic prosperity can translate to better access to social needs, from healthcare to education, through some basic needs as better roads and improved public policy.

Redesigning or modifying a town can be a challenge, but, I believe that every town can be made better, either in small or large ways. I will then ask you the basic question (which is also the poll question):

If you were a town planner for a Bicolano community, what would be your greatest priority to make your town even more successful?

I ask that question because I understand that there will be different answers for each person. One might say, "I would like to see my town have better water infrastructure to help keep our farms running"; another could suggest "my town's roads need a lot of improvement, thus I will buy cement and asphalt to keep them smooth"; still another could say "each of these things are important, so I would take all of them". I learned from my previous threads that "different strokes exist for different folks", and I will respect each of your opinions and suggestions you make on this thread. I highly suggest though to discuss in English or Tagalog because I have difficulty understanding Bicol and its myriad of dialects. If you have any questions about the choices, feel free to ask me directly.

SSC rules and regulations apply to this thread, so enjoy the discussion!

Bicol Region: City and Urban Planning

Note: this thread is loosely based on my Building Your Ultimate City series and this topic is specific to the Bicol Region. More information abou the series can be viewed here. There is also a companion thread to this topic, focusing on the towns in the Bicol Region: click here for more information. If you would like to suggest this question tailored to your province's cities, please contact me directly via PM and I will create one specifically for you.

Running a great city can become a challenge, especially when the population keeps growing as more people from far-flung areas of the provinces of Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Masbate, and Sorsogon are slowly moving into the region's largest cities, namely Legaspi, Naga, Iriga, Sorsogon, Daet, Tabaco, Ligao, Masbate, and Virac Cities. Each of them has its own unique charm that defines their cities: Legaspi hosts to great views of Mayon Volcano, Naga hosts the annual Penafrancia Festival, and Sorsogon is a jump-off point to spectacular Mount Bulusan. Their commercial importance depends on many key factors, from good transportation options to good public policies to accessible education for its residents. However, I do believe that such cities can shine even further as true cities where people can really enjoy living the city life without the need to travel all the way to Manila or Cebu City.

With that, I will ask this question:

If you were a city planner for any of Bicol's cities, what kinds of improvements would you like to see to make the cities more livable, and thus much more successful?

I ask such a question because "different strokes exist for different folks". The main difference between the Town Planning thread (link) and this thread is that, with City Planning, you are free to choose as many options as you would like to express your thoughts and opinions about the many cities of the Bicol Region. I understand that cities and towns operate differently from each other, but I treat both terms equally because both are considered as communities, with cities being much more urban in nature than many towns in the province. I highly suggest though to discuss in English or Tagalog because I have difficulty understanding Bicol and its myriad of dialects. If you have any questions about the choices, feel free to ask me directly.

SSC rules and regulations apply to this thread, so enjoy discussing the future of Bicol's great cities!

Daet Central Terminal Complex I binuksan kahapon
Quote:

P5-B wind energy farm takes shape in Camarines Sur
Philippine Daily Inquirer
7:23 pm | Saturday, January 12th, 2013

Quote:
A wind energy farm is set to rise in Camarines Sur that is expected to generate at least 60 megawatts of electricity and generate green jobs for the province that officials said they hoped to turn into the greenest in the country in terms of energy generation and use.

In a statement, Gov. Luis “LRay” Villafuerte Jr. said the wind energy farm is seen to draw in as much as P5 billion in investments into the province.

The governor said work on the project had started with the putting up of a meteorological tower at the project site.

He said the provincial government had also commissioned a study on green energy production and results are encouraging.

The study points to the availability of sources of biomass energy in the province. These could produce up to 75 MW of electricity from biomass plants and 11 MW from biogas plants, said Villafuerte.

The amount of energy from these sources could more than make up for an increase in power demand in Camarines Sur that is seen to rise to 22 MW until 2018.

Villafuerte said the province had also started putting up a 100-hectare bamboo plantation that would provide fuel for a power plant that could generate up to 25 MW more of electricity. The plantation could expand to 3,000 ha, he said.

This is good news. I actually thought the good governor is already too preoccupied with his campaigning that he has forgotten his job.

LRay would think twice before putting up the facility in Fuentebella's turf. I guess it would be built somewhere in the second district, most probably Libmanan.

This is definitely a great news!

20 MW Waste-to-energy facility in Naga and now 60 MW Wnd energy in CamSur!

Stable energy means more huge investments to come!

This would be another Gov. LRay's legacy for us Camarinenses!
