Meant to get pictures on the weekend, but forgot to grab the camera. The bridge is now placed across the entire highway and rail tracks, with glass installed on about 80% and sheet metal covering of the stairs in place. Nothing yet done for the metal skin.

Bridge

Hey all, The bridge did turn out nicely eh I have been watching it since day one as well. The office tower which you guys are speaking of is actually part property of Durham and Centennial College.(like mentioned below/ Above)
I don't know if it's right to continue this thread with the attached component which they are adding now? I have been going to the site regularly to take pictures of the construction process (the addition )

I drive under this thing a few times a week to get to work. It seems like they are finished with the bridge, so unless a huge surprise happens, I think it's a bait and switch!

The City website indicates that while the bridge is open, in its final form it will have the "skin"

http://www.pickering.ca/en/living/pedestrianbridge.asp

Quote:
Pickering's landmark pedestrian bridge is now open to the public! This fully enclosed bridge spans 250 metres across Highway 401, Canada's busiest highway, and can be used by both pedestrians and cyclists.

...

Once fully completed, the structure will be wrapped in a metallic, mesh-like skin, giving it a fluidic and organic appearance. LED lighting will illuminate the bridge at night, making it a luminous beacon that will signify where Pickering and Durham Region begin. These and other features should be completed by this fall.

That is a relief. With the skin it is gorgeous. Without it is an eyesore.

Not any time soon, I suspect. But then again, the current fleet of Bilevels were built in the 1970s and the diesel engines used on the Lakeshore route aren't fast enough to maintain the service that Metrolinx's plans call for, so it might not be all that far off....

They look like high speed rail trains.

Maybe HSR is coming to Canada sooner than we thought.
