Basic PF2 construction seems over but amenities still pending. For PF 3 it is way to go & rails are yet to be put.

Trains still seem to arr/dep on PF1 only till date.

Many trains to/from TVC seem parked on PF2 most of time.

Kochuveli terminus cries for infrastructural push

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kochuveli terminus in the city continues to be a not so passenger friendly railway station due to lack of basic amenities.

The station, which has 11 express and superfast trains, and nine passenger trains originate or pass through, is yet to have a foot over bridge connecting the two platforms. As a result passengers have no other choice but to drag their heavy luggage across the tracks if they have to go from one platform to the other.

Lijin V, an advocate who arrived at the station on the western entrance of the station, alongside the All Saints junction-Thumba road, said that auto drivers intentionally take passengers to the wrong side.

"My train was stationed at the platform on the eastern entrance, but as this was my first journey from Kochuveli I was unaware about this. The auto driver took me to the wrong entrance and then demanded Rs 50 to take me to the other side. I refused to get fleeced and finally had to drag all my belongings through the tracks. There were many others, especially passengers from North India who got swindled and had to cross the tracks in a similar way," he said.

Railway staff at the terminus said that crossing the tracks was dangerous as express trains which had no stops here.

"Senior citizens, kids and women are vulnerable in such conditions and it is high time authorities address the matter," said Thomas (name changed), a gangman.

The station opened in 2005 was promised fast development with 10 platforms and supporting infrastructure. But even after seven years, things remain more or less the same.

Divisional railway manager Rajesh Aggrawal said that construction of a third platform was underway and infrastructure development would go side by side with the hosting of more trains at the terminus.

Seems 06315 SBC-KCVL Express would be retained as a regular service there by converting the tri-weekly express into a daily one (as mentioned in railway budget).

Yesterday I travelled in the same train, even the name plate mentions 16315 instead of the Onam special (06315) and arrived almost before an hour of its scheduled time at KCVL . It contained a new look rake. Only thing is they must change the 06315s current timings. It follows a horrible 14:15PM departure from SBC and in return direction arriving SBC @ 12:30 PM or so. IR has surely given a cold start on its original proposal

Its a simple logic from IR. They already changed the TT but due to protests they retained TT of 16315/16. That time cannot be implemented for daily as it has clashes with weekly ERS trains. In between they brought a new rake for 16315/16 with biotoilets, and the old rake was idling in KCVL yard.
The idling rake ran as specials during Onam and after that this new 06315/16 special was anounced as 4 days a week. To operate it for 4 days, it now has an RSA with the original 16315/16. So on some days it will run with oldrakes and some days with new rakes. There by SR Chennai Lobby easily could have hijacked one of the new rakes meant for 16315 ( announced as daily), and it is also running horrible timing train 06315/16 special which is more useful for CBE and other parts of TN than Kerala or Trivandrum.

06315/06316 are announced to run as Tri-weekly Special trains till end of January 2013.
.................Same timings as the regular 16315/16316 trains.

So, two tri-weeklies ..... maybe the 7th day is for announcing an "additional" special ???

Giving his name for the railway station doesn't make any sense . If at all renaming the station there are a number of personalities who deserve that.Don't know who's idea is this.

Who are those deserving Personalities??
Gandhi family???

We doesnt have a road/bridge/railway station/airport named after our nobel price laurates or olympics medal winners.........

We have lot of them named after corrupt politicians

Railway targets 100km/hr on Kerala tracks

The average speed of trains in Thiruvananthapuram division is 80 km/hour, and that too when Indian Railways is trying to standardize the speed at 100-130 km/hour. The division aims to raise it to 90-110 km/hour this year.

Thiruvananthapuram divisional railway manager Rajesh Agrawal said they could only manage to operate its services below the standard speed due to the state's unique topography. Line doubling works near Kottayam would also be accorded priority in the year. A survey has already been sanctioned for the new Chengannur-Sabarimala line. The Kochuveli yard will be completed soon and it is expected to ease traffic at Thiruvananthapuram Central station. However, there are no immediate plans for a coaching terminal at Nemom.

"Besides introducing 11 pairs of new trains in a year, passenger routes in the division have seen 100% electrification. Ours is one of the few divisions to achieve the feat in the country. The electrification of the Thiruvananthapuram-Nagercoil and Nagercoil-Tirunelveli lines has been completed," he said. "Manning and interlocking of all level crosses will be completed in 2013 itself, ahead of the nationwide target set for 2015For safety, we have proposed 30 subways in the division. A minimum 100 rail overbridges are needed in the division. We are ready to bear the expenses but the state should take up the matter seriously," he said. The authorities have also proposed to the state tourism department to introduce a Kairali coach, offering Kerala-style facilities to passengers, in all inter-state trains.

Tri-weekly Kochuveli-Bangalore train to run daily from March

The tri-weekly Kochuveli-Bangalore Express will be made a daily service in March. Railway sources confirmed that an order would be issued in this regard and the service included in the railway time table soon.
However, there could be change in its timings. "We had sought a status quo on timings or make it a 12-hour journey from Kochuveli at 8 pm but they could be delayed by a couple of hours owing to the heavy rush at Bangalore Central in the morning hours and the high traffic on the route," said a top official from the Thiruvananthapuram division.
The train leaves Kochuveli at 4.05 pm on Sundays, Mondays and Fridays now and reaches Bangalore at 8.35 am the next day. There are apprehensions that it will be allowed to enter the Bangalore Central station only after 10.30 am.
"The Bangalore division authorities are unwilling to advance the timing. Only a political intervention can ensure a 12-hour journey reaching Bangalore before 8 am," said the officer. Railway authorities had completed all formalities for the daily service announced in budget last year but they decided to continue the tri-weekly service following protests by passengers.

Hopeless Lights of the Railway Budget

New Express Trains
Lokmanya Tilak (T) – Kochuveli Weekly Express is the single express train alloted to Trivandrum from the 67 trains newly introduced. Kollam and Nagercoil gets one each.
Kochuveli-Chandigarh Express frequency increased to biweekly.

Extended Trains
Erannakulam - Guwahati express extended till TVC.

Extended Passenger ServicesMadurai-Kollam Passenger extended upto Punalur (under Madurai division)
Trivandrum-Nagercoil MEMU extended upto Kanyakumari

No mention of Kochuveli Railway Station in the budget.

There is enough land available in Kazhakoottam Railway station for Railway Hospital. No mention of the same. This area needs more hospitals.

Internationalisation of Thamapnoor Railway station missing.

Seems, that water bottling plant of the last budget is still in the bottle (details awaited).
Enough land and water is available in Kadakkavur (on the banks of Vamanapuram River).

When railways are crying shortage of land in Triavndrum, they can plan to use the vertical space above the railway platforms to construct an excellent office space at prime location (wideing of platform overbridge and constructing offcies there.) as has been done in Dadar Railway Station,Mumbai.

Source : http://www.rediff.com/business/slide...s/20130226.htm

Basically it is a Punjab-Raibarelli-Andhra budget with routine special privilidge to TN.
