lol o.k there is no direct translation so you will just have to use descriptive words. I would say:

Anxiety disorder waa xanuun qofka dhanka maskaxda ama qalbiga saameyn ku yeesha, oo sababa inuu qofku markasta sas, werer iyo cabsi qabo.

Assalaamu Alaikum,

Im going to be very blunt here. So I was trying to start a large successful business in Somalia. I finished my business degree and don't want to open a business in the U.S and was thinking of making a business in my country. Can I get some ideas of what kind of business to start that is needed by my people and will be helpful to the and me at the same time. Any suggestions?

Firstly, you need some capital and some form of security. After that, all you need to do is find something that is huge in demand in Somalia and supply it. I know this sound simplistic, but this is what business is all about.

There are plenty of potential industries to get into but you need lots of capital, connections, and a potential exit strategy. I would like to start something myself one day when I have the money but the property right laws are not strong enough for me to take the plunge. IMO, something in livestock, shipping, or establishing a service to diaspora and foreigners would be good. Starting a business in Somalia is a very difficult venture but there is good potential.

The biggest advice I could give you is to visit the area you intend to invest in. Whilst there, think about all the services/things that the area lacks and you could realistically implement. I did the same thing when I went back home 2 yrs ago. Although I didn't go for business reasons, but after coming back to the West and giving it a thought, I drew up a list of all the potential businesses I could open. They're mostly service based. Some are short/mid-term and others are long term. Another advice is to be realistic and start small (unless you're confident you will definitely succeed). Your first business should one that you could easily leave should things go wrong. A pilot if you like. Also, try to invest in the big business centres. No matter how much you might love your tuulo, it won't make you much money And good luck.

Indeed like sideway send service based business or food industries such as bakeries e.t.c are the way to go, import taxes are still very low to non-existent so I would be careful to introduce something into the economy that can be easily imported, but a service based business that is run to high standards such as a world class auto garage dedicated to the U.N and diaspora owner vehicles to western standards would be something to think about since you are able to curve out a very profitable and in the long run sustainable niche.
A world class bakery is also something to think about laxoox all the time is a killer

it really depends on the sector of the economy you want to engage in. in Somalia we have a glut in the Telecommunication sector, you can make a phone call for penny but can't buy food. i agree with all the other, today service sector seems to way forward in somalia. a breakdown sector by sector. in Somalia livestock is the most important earner of hard currency so anyone who can provide pharmaceuticals, veterinarian care and logistics would do well. there is an embryonic fishery sector in somalia. I read the U.N. recommendations for puntland regarding it fishery sector. the need for equipment, repair shops and store of caught fish were at the top of the agenda. in south central somalia, there is great need to invest in agriculture from seed to fertilizer to storage to market development. there are great opportunities all it require is someone brave enough to invest and ripe the rewards. lastly the country is in need of industrial output everything be it food processing to textiles to building material.

i hope that help, good luck walaal
