Although it closed in 1983, and was demolished in one of the world's largest demo projects, the Detroit J. L. Hudson's Department Store was the 2nd largest in the world at 2.2 million square ft. Only Macy's Herald Square Store in NYC was larger. Hudson's was demo'ed in one of the worlds largest demolition projects in the world back in 1998.... a Guinness World Record.

Although not as opulent as many department stores... you could truly buy anything from paper clips to an automobile in this store.... R.I.P.

Here are some shots of the refurbished David Jones 'On Seven' space in the Elizabeth Street flagship. The floor hosts David Jones' bridal boutique and is where the department store holds many of its fashion parades and VIP events. On Seven has sweeping views over Hyde Park to St Marys Cathedral. Unfortunately the floor is mostly closed to the public, however these shots were taken during the Open Sydney weekend.

It's history includes a State Banquet in 1954 to honour the visit of the newly crowned Queen Elizabeth II. I think it also played host to Christian Dior's New Look - the first time Dior had ever shown outside of Paris - and an art gallery for a time.

Harvey Nichols Kuwait.

Opened last month at The Avenues Mall. Its the third store in the middle east after Riyadh and Dubai. And its the biggest store outside UK.

DFS Galleria Sydney
155 George Street, The Rocks

One of three department stores in Sydney, DFS Galleria is a chain of department stores and shopping centres predominantly across Asia and the Pacific.

The Sydney store is located on George Street in The Rocks, opposite the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia and just down from the Four Seasons Hotel Sydney.

The ground floor has luxury boutiques by Louis Vuitton, Ralph Lauren and Burberry as well as shop-in-shops by Cartier, Tiffany and Co, Chloe, Dior, Fendi, Salvatore Ferragamo and Coach amongst others.

The three upper floors stock duty and tax free Australian food and wine, sheepskin accessories, a range of international fragrances and cosmetics, childrenswear, sunglasses, jewellery and fine watches.

Here are two pics (not an easy store to photograph).
