Frank Lloyd Wrights Robie House
Hello everyone,
I'm a architecture student from Germany and I follow this forum now for a while and decided to sign up now and contribute my stuff to you. At first I want to give to all modelers a big respect. I have seen some great stuff here and it really motivated me to make my models even better. So the first thing I'm posting is a Styrofoam Model of Frank Lloyd Wrights Robie House. I had a paper model from this house I odered online but I was never satisfied with it and when I moved to a new place the model got damaged. So now I start all over again. Even if it's not a paper model I hope you still like it. I saw Oties project and Jrobinson84's models so I thought it's ok for you and that you can give me some usefull feedback. I think I will also make a papermodel for everyone to build the Robie House if you guys are interested in it. But that will take a few more weeks. At first I have to build a styrofoam one. ![]() This is the model i ordered online. And here are some pictures from my new start with the model. ![]()

Well first off Welcome to the forum Micehr!
I hope you have an enjoyful experience here on SSC. And secondly what you have currently made of the styrofoam is actually really detailed, because I can clearly tell which part of the house you have started, I can wait until you start putting the details on it though! I bet it will look fantastic!

At first, thanks for your feedback.
I added some more parts to the model. To add these took like 5 hours. So I think it takes me a few more months to finish it all. University and Work is really busy right now and I hope I can still give you a weekly update. Here are the newest pictures. Hope you like them. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Thank you very much, I try to keep it as accurate and clean as possible.
I cut the polystyrene with a small machine that works with a hot wire. I'm not sure if you have heard of a thing like this. I bought one for me at home. I'll post a picture of this machine later so you know what I mean. It's not that expensive and the styrofoam is like everywhere. My family is always collecting styrofoam for me instead of throwing it in the trash. ![]() I got to now this machine at the University but there they had just 3 for like 250 architecture students. So they were always broken or in use, when I needed them. That sucked a lot and so I got my own. And the best is, I can build models like the Robie House whenever I want. |

I know which one you're talking, the one similar to a butcher hand saw, right? Wow, never thought of that possibility, is it expensive to get one?
