Major Deegan, where did you find the photo looking at St. Paul? It looks exactly like mine that is posted on my flickr page.

Pulled it from Google search. Sorry, I do try to give credit whenever possible.

I love this angle. The skyline looks especially dense from here and shows off a variety of architectural styles in Minne:

At one point I was going to do a photothread that was an homage to Twin Cities streetcar suburbia, which, as those of us who live here know, is the dominant urban form in Minneapolis and St Paul proper. I think the denser version of streetcar suburbia is one of the more underrated urban forms. It allows for leafy green neighborhoods and can still have densities up to 20,000 ppsm which is dense enough to be walkable and have good transit. It gives you all the best functional attributes of a city with fewer of the negatives. In spring Minneapolis always reminds me of a city built into a forest garden, and that is a good thing to be.

Here are a few shots from that unfinished project - Minneapolis as those of us who live in it know it:

Great shots. Now I'm depressed about winter again.

So much has been given up in favor of PoMo and surface parking

I love these vintage photos of Minneapolis. That north view (the first photo) is almost unrecognizable, save for a few buildings.

Look at the sea of parking surrounding City Hall and blocks between the Post Office and Washington Avenue. Incredible. We've come a long way since 1969, after a lot of the "urban renewal" damage had already been done. Even still, to think there are still dozens upon dozens upon dozens of blocks of surface parking left downtown is mind-boggling.

I wonder what the skyline will look like in that last picture when the new buildings being currently built are finished .
