King’s Reach Tower could be turned into giant billboard for Olympics

The owners of King's Reach Tower on the South Bank have applied for permission to erect four 60-metre high PVC advertisements on the building to cash in on the the London 2012 Olympics.

From the article:

The proposed PVC wrap would cover the 9th to 27th floors on all four elevations. The south and east faces of the tower would be illuminated at night.

The PVC wrap would initially be displayed between March and September this year.

After the Paralympics the wrap would be removed and scaffolding erected around the tower as part of the project to convert the building for residential use. The wrap would be re-erected to cover the scaffolding between February and May 2013.

Which - as I understand - means works will start in 2013, not in "early 2012" as stated in the hoardings.

I've just got an email from a recruiter on this, it states:
Mace wins contract for £129m King's Reach tower

Vacancies are set to rise as Mace is confirmed as main contractor for the £129m 30-storey King’s Reach development on London’s South Bank. The Kohn Pederson Fox-designed scheme will include 370,000 sq ft of offices, 72,000 sq ft of shops and 173 flats. Work is due to start in January 2013, with the project expected to be complete by the end of 2015.

"An unloved 1970s tower block on the south bank of the River Thames was today expected to undergo the first stage of its rejuvenation.

CIT said as part of a rebranding exercise, the King’s Reach Tower would henceforth be known as the “South Bank Tower”.

With joint venture partner Jadwa Investment, CIT is converting the 30-storey 1970s building into a mixed-use scheme with 370,000 sq ft of offices, 72,000 sq ft of shops and 173 flats. The Kohn Pedersen Fox plans include an extension of part of the tower by six floors to create flats on the upper storeys.

Last September CIT secured £250m for development from a consortium of Middle Eastern institutions led by ABC National Bank, a subsidiary of Arab Banking Corporation. The flats will go on sale later this year. Completion is scheduled for the end of 2015."
